  • Lst Ride of the Season

Friday November 18th was an exceptional day for weather in southwestern Ontario. Looking at the forcast during the week, I was debating playing hooky from work. Instead, I rode the bike to work for only the second time, just to ensure to get a few last miles in for the season on this rare day.

    It was glorious.

I was not alone out there, while the roads were becoming absent of our two wheeled friends in recent weeks, many bikes populated the highways that day. My XS11 found a friend in the bike corral to spend most of the day with.

But the end of the day came, and it was time to go home.

Shadows were long with the day getting near the shortest of the year. I kept my cool on the throttle, within 20km of limit and the OPP will usually leave you alone. Last thing I wanted was to ruin this ride with a ticket!

    Just me and my shawdow....

and then it was done, I was home, and the gear came off for the last time

It was so sad...and then I remember I needed some ingredients for making pizza tonight! So went out for another blast, got the groceries, topped up with ethanol free and rolled her into the garage.

Yep, sure enough, next day, look at that sky, yuck!

....and there it is, that damn white stuff....back into the car for the winter.

    dbbrian,
Looks like it was a great day for a ride up north!

I had two of my 11's out for a short ride this weekend, a little "Chilly" (by Atlanta standards) but it was nice as well. I also noticed several other riders (more than usual) on the roads this chilly weekend.

Your XS11 looks stellar, it's a shame she's headed for winter hibernation! Make sure she's properly prepared for the long sleep so it's easier to wake her up again when the spring breaks.

Nice pictures Brian, I rushed home from work and went for a ride but the friday night traffic was still heavy with people going home so did not get in much of a ride. Also stopped at the station for a tank of ethanol free gas. Saturday my daughted needed the van so I had to take the bike the morning was cool but sunny but the ride home was on rain soaked roads and cold so I too might had had the last ride of the season.

OK Phil, I humbly bow to you.

I'm not going to challenge you anymore. You can stop freezing your you-know-what off and claim the win for the "latest Ride of the Season" trophy!

            thanks

Thanks Ranger, nice of you to say.

And thanks Kurt. Chilly in Altlanta would be just fine. Hope you get to keep on ridin'. The prep isn't done, but it will get done. Just filled with ethanol free so far.

              50+ weeks a year!

              dbbrian,
One of the advantages of being this far south is we can ride almost the full year. There will be a week or two when there may be icing conditions or just too cold. But, those periods rarely last more than a couple days. No need to winterize here!

Unfortunately, I've spent most of my life in N.E. Pennsylvania: Skiing, Snowmobiling (and Snowmobile Racing), Sledding, Skating on frozen lakes, etc. NONE of that available in Atlanta! Sure do miss it! ENJOY!!!!

                Well done!

Great job with the pics, and the commentary. Like Kurt said, weather "down South", is a bit more forgiving! We are about 5 hrs North from where he is, but it still beats spending the winters on an iceberg! I have ridden on Thanksgiving with 70 degree temps, and I have shoveled snow. If it's over 45 in the winter, I will usually venture out for a while at least. My road sofa gets used more in the winter than the other bikes. The full fairing and a charging system that will power all our Gerbing heated gear, gets more appealing as I get older!

That was great, one of those, "Just in the nick of time!" rides that beat the snow. Nice one!
