I got an early start on Wed. before the rally and left the house @ 6am headed towards Bohn Frazer's house in Shawnee, Kansas. The temps have been getting well over 100 with a planned 108 for this day, so I was trying to beat the heat. Heading north, I got to watch the sun come up.. a nice morning for a ride.
When I stopped on the border of Kansas and Oklahoma for fuel, this picture is up on their wall and I laughed. Even at an early age, boys realize that the world is our bathroom! You can draw pictures, write your name, try to hit bugs..... Sure must suck to be a girl! lol.
I hit some mid 90's temps, but then got a reprieve with some cloud cover the rest of the way in to Bohn's house.
I got to Bohn's house about 1pm, and we went to Cabellas and Bass Pro so I could get a new set of rain pants. I couldn't find mine for the trip. If you're into hunting, Cabellas in Kansas City has a trophy room of whitetail and mule deer that is really impressive. Many record deer are displayed and it's free to go look. I forgot my camera, so you'll just have to go see it for yourself!
Later we went to Russ79's house. I brought up some ribeyes on the condition that they cook them! lol. Bohn's wife made a pie to die for, which is saying a lot since pies aren't usually my favorite. It didn't even SOUND good.. apple/blackberry, but OMG it was good. I even ate the crust, which I never do. I was later told the crust was made with Crisco AND real butter. No wonder it was good! lol.
It hadn't rained in over a month at Bohn's, but it was that next morning. If you're ever at Bohn's and they offer you something to eat for breakfast, save yourself some time and just eat. Bohn pestered me for 30 minutes... then it was his wife's turn. After telling her no 39 times, she came downstairs where we were getting ready and handed me a huge bowl of freshly cut fruit. I doubt she's barely a hundred pounds soaking wet, but I got a look that promised an azz whoopin' if I didn't eat up.
We finally headed out in the drizzling rain @ 10am to head to Bob Falter's house in Iowa. It quit for a while, but looked like we were heading for more. Looked nice over here....
Not so much right in front of us...
Before too long, the rain came out and the sauna... err... rain gear had to come off. We rode through Kansas, then Missourri before seeing this sign.
We got to Bob's place and loaded up in their car to go to the Amana Colonies to eat and go to the brewery there.
Bohn in front of the place we would be eating at in a bit.
Neat place to visit if you've never been. Lots of history there with lots of shops. We stopped first to do a little wine tasting, then headed to the brewery with Bob in the lead.
There's Bob's wife Jackie, our designated driver, with the bottle of wine and ordering a beer. They also make several flavors of soda pop. Also in the pic.. Bob, at the far left, used to work at the Amana Colonies back in the late 70's, and he met a guy that knew him from then, who you can barely see.
Out in front of the brewery, they grew beer hops as decoration. I think it's a very cool idea.
Bohn, Bob, Jackie, their grandson Jarrod (Who was a bit smaller last time I saw him) headed to dinner.
More beer, and the placemats told a bit of their history...
And a closer look...
It talks of "The Great Change" in 1932, and I thought they were talking of the Great Depression. More about it here if you care to read about it and the colonies...

We went home after eating, had some more talks and a couple more beverages, then called it a night.
To be continued...
