  • Aftermarket Gas Cap - MikesXS

    XS11 Folks,
Today I received my replacement gas cap from MikesXS pictured here on one of my XS11's.

I am extremely pleased with the look and quality of this item. Although not quite the quality level of the OEM Yamaha cap (hinge area seems a little weaker), it's a great deal compared to the absolutely RIDICULOUS prices folks are asking for; used, damaged, rusty, scratched, JUNK offered on Evil-Bay.

Since the replacement OEM seal for the Yamaha cap is $18+ from Partzilla, I figure this complete replacement cap assy. is a great deal.

    MikesXS Part #20-0034, $33.00.

    Sincerely,
    KURT

I think Mike carries the same cap as Parts-N-More. That's where I got mine.

I thought the quality was quite good except for the lock. I found it was pretty easy to take the lock from my OEM cap and swap it to the replacement. My key fits my tank and ignition.

      Greg,
I'm going to do the same thing. I will swap this pretty cap over to my primary XS11 (The DUCK) where all the very best parts get installed. I'll move the ugly cap & the new lock/key back over to this DEAD DUCK.

I was in a bit of a pinch in that I had three XS11's and only two gas caps so I needed an entire assembly. One of my XS11's will be needing a good bit of work from a locksmith to get it operational with a single key. vs. 3 or 4 different keys.....

        Kurt:

Thanks for the report- I've wondered if those caps were decent or not.

I have ordered the rubber gaskets for 3 of my Specials from Mike's XS, and they are OK, but the inner circumference swells a bit and the fit becomes a bit loose and the inner lips raises up. They still work fine, just not perfect.

Once the rubber gasket fails, I'm pretty sure you can fit an OEM gasket to the aftermarket cap.
