I was finally able to get out and ride on a very dark winter night. I can see 4-5 times farther on high beam. Low beam is great when around other traffic.
This is the best thing I have done for my XSs night riding capabilities.
I just installed a headlight modulator on my '80G and am now quite curious about the HID mod. Can anyone tell me if I can use the Kisan Pathblazer on the HID system? The one I installed just plugs in between the H4 spades on the back of the headlamp and the connector that feeds it power. It works on the high beam only and has a photocel that turns it off at dusk. Thanks.

Another question, and excuse my ignorance, what is the RLU supposed to do? And apparently it is not necessary, right? Mine blinks as the light modulates when I'm using the modulator on high beam as it is supposed to work.

The RLU takes over if one of the two filaments in a normal headlight burn out and switches to the other one to keep light on the road.
The Xenon HID kit draws 20 watts less than the standard light and the RLU thinks a filament is gone, keeping the high beam on (at a reduced level, as it's designed to do).
I took the RLU off my bike, shorted 2 wires (I forget which 2, found it on the XS Triples site) and the Xenon HID kit works fine.
I guess that is why when my modulator dims the light to 35% the RLU blinks at me to tell me it's trying to do something. It actually does not switch it over to the low beam and the modulator continues to operate.
Do you think the modulator will work with the HID. It has an H4/H3 connector. I didn't see the type of connector it uses in Dennyz project photos.
Here's a link to the Kisan installation project. Quite easy, it took me all of 15 minutes.

The HID kit I have did not have the standard H4 connector. I left my stock H4 wiring (minus the RLU) in tact just in case the HID goes bad when I am on the road.
I don't think the HID bulb would like being dimmed.
I didn't see the H4 connector in your project photo essay, that's why I was asking. And like you say, the HID probably wouldn't take well to being dimmed. Since I do most of my riding during the daytime I think I'll stick with the modulator for now. Thanks guys!!

i have a HID kit on my bobber and i never took off the RLU and it looks extremely bright to me. the only think thats happening is that i have a light lit on my instrument cluster saying the headlight is out. Im assuming it wouldnt make any difference in brightness if i disconnected the RLU.

I fitted a hid kit today what a huge difference in vision now .I wonder how long the bulb will last?? the kit cost $77AU landed from china I got the 43000k H4 kit for a car so have a spare if something goes wrong.I also put a 2pin electronic flasher can in (now they even work without engine running at 2000rpm.)this is the best site ever full of great info and people.
I got my XENEN H4/3 HID ,6000k set from Hong Kong this week and put it on my SG yesterday. Took a trip on some dark roads last night: WOW ! Fantastic light ! Much better then I expected. $24 for the kit and $35 for shipping to Norway. It seems to be a good investment.

About 3 months ago the High Beam/ Low Beam stopped working. My headlight was stuck on High Beam all the time. It was disappointing to have it fail so soon. I adjusted my headlight down and continued to enjoy the increased lighting. A couple of weeks ago, the head light failed all together a three hundred miles from home (on a Sunday). I rigged up my small LED flashlight inside my headlamp so I would have some kind of headlight until I could get to an auto parts store that was open on Sunday (100 miles away). It was feeble and I did not get stopped. So, I am back to a conventional Halogen bulb.
In summary, I was very impressed with the HIDs performance, but not impressed with the quality of the low cost solution. I can not recommend the kit I purchased.
Was it the bulb that failed, or was it the HID unit that failed? I noticed in your write up that you were worried about the heat from the motor shortening the life of the unit. Do you think that is what caused the failure? Or, just cheap parts and we would be better to go with a higher quality unit?
thanks
