      Here's a couple pics of Dan's V-Max:

Dan's a freek about Mr. Max. Actually Dan's a freek about all his stuff. An absolute perfectionist, protectionist, and preservationist about his "toys". Here photographic evidence of him on a road trip with Mr. Max. Rented a motel room. Mr. Max got the room...Dan slept in the parking lot...

          Interesting?

I had heard they were going to redesign it. I hope the redesigned engine can keep up with the futuristic look. I should think it would be putting out 170 or 180 hp as opposed to the curent 140-145. Maybe it will shed some weight considering the current version tipps the scales at almost 600 lbs.

          Thanx

While we're posting photos and all here's my favorite angle of the ZRX. I had several guys that ride V-Rods say they've never seen this bike before. But when they look at it from this angle they usually say something like..."Oh wow ...I remember this bike now!"

Both the Kaw and the concept VMax are beautiful.

                stealth paint

I hate to burst anyones bubbles, but radar's main target on a bike is the headlight reflector and the bone mass of the rider. And there is no way to to get around that problem, so save your paint money for tickets. Besides grey is for battle ships not bikes. Except BMWs they can use any color and it still looks great, nobody knows why! Check out Motorcycle Comsumer News sometime in 1992 I think that is the right year give or take, they did a big test on avoiding radar and what it picks up. The only advantage a bike has over a car is most bikes can get closer to the gun before it is picked up,so if you run a detecter you will pick him up before he picks up you. Maybe

If only the V-Max was 300 pounds lighter (yea, I know, just get off - lol). I had a V-Max and a RZV500R. The RZV would smoke the VMX, and then make the hard right at the end of the road. It was more comfortable to ride the Max alone, but with the wife aboard the 500 was better; go figure.

The other thing about the V4, well they were both V4's, was the abysmal mileage. It was a good day that would allow me to go much over 120 miles on before the light started to glow and insisted on drinking another 4 gallons of gas. Now lets see... 32mpg on a V-Max, and 6mpg in a fully loaded 40 ton Freightliner; there seems to be a severe disconnect here.

That is why I love my SR500; 65mpg, and I can move it around in the garage without having it running. For touring the R100/T is my choice because it gets 44mpg no matter how I drive it, and it has those cool permanent sidestands on both side of the bike; it never falls over very far. Now the Turbo 11 will smoke my brother's FZ-1, but is worthless for much more than ditching the cops or collecting pink-slips. For the bike show, I break out the 1938 BSA M20; 55 mph on the straight and level and I don't think it uses Any gas...

I guess my point is that to cover more than a few bases, we all need at least 10 bikes. The only problem is which 10 bikes to keep - that means I would have to sell the other 10 :-(

                    Cheers,

                        V-Max mileage

I have ridden my V-Max from St. Louis to Colorado twice and southern Arizona once. With a small windshield it gets 38-40 mpg running 80-85 mph.It is smooth and has only one downside, it's a pain to put gas in it with the Corbin seat. Max is no sport bike but is the fastest cruiser out there and it's cheap and there is a ton of parts available for it. I don't know what a RZV500R is but I'm familiar with the current crop of 600 sport bikes which are all unplesant to ride but are very fast if you keep them wound up tight. An R6 is particuallary bogus and is as far out in one respect as a Harley Davidson is the other. I would like to see the V-Max get an increase in displacement, say 1500 cc's, but other than that I hope they leave it alone and keep the price down like it is. Actually it has more than enough power now but a dab more wouldn't hurt and that would give me an excuse to get a new one.

I must admit, even though it took me 20 years to actually own
one, I did like my VMX12. I had it when I was living in Phoenix,
and it was almost necessary to stay out of harms way - Lots of
Power, and a good horn. On 110 degree days it did run a wee bit
hot though; the cooling fan ran constantly and it was always just
below boiling over (so was I - whew).

The RZV was also a 1985, and it was sure fun up in the
mountains; much less work than the V-Max in the twisties.
RZ500's are actually grey market bikes - the steel frame's were
available in Canada, and the aluminum frame RZV's were Japan
only. They had factory switches on the bars that would override
the lights, including disabling the brake light; only thing that
would be good for is tricking someone into rear ending you, or
ditching cops??? There is a website devoted to these bug foggers
                          of anyone wants a look:
                          www.rzrd500.com
Lots of info, and something else to want...

I agree the the gas filler was a trick too - I never had much luck
getting over the mid 30's for mileage, and it seemed i was always
giving the thing a 92 octane enema. I loved the looks other rider
would give me at the station :-). Any bike that stays in the line-up
over 20 years has to be a classic, and as the original muscle bike,
they will always be the ultimate torque monster. Unfortunately
they are not the baddest thing at the drag strip any more; it is
going to take a few more cubes and a few less pounds to regain
that title - but hey, lets see what Yammy does!

                          Cheers,
                          Yamanatic

Make sure you know what you are getting as you can really get hosed on one of these things. Also make sure you are getting a 49 state model as the California models have different cams plus some emission stuff that the others don't have. Even though ole Max is no Busa buster, he is still a fun ride, no doubt.

I've decided against the purchase. I cannot verify enough security details to validate the transaction. It's a private seller listing the bike. Wants me to Western Union cash to a Moneybookers.com agent.

My gut says no. My brain says no because of security issues, most notably that some messages appearing to come from a MoneyBookers agent contain IP addresses that point to Yahoo Mail. Registration mail generated from moneybookers.com today contained completely different IP addresses. I find it hard to believe that an agent would send mail from personal yahoo accounts.

Too bad. I had my hopes up for a Max.

There IS a local Bandit 1200 for sale, but it is NOT a Max.
