Ido not believe in beating around the bush and will say straight up,I think this particular Max is butt ugly.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though so hopefully whoever built this thing likes it.Mine is a 96,shiny black but has polished wheel's,Corbin seat,Yamaha sissy bar, case guard's,clear turn signal's, chrome early tail light arrangement and 170 back tire but other wise looks stock. It has an aftermarket ignition (brain) and some carburetor fiddling but the engine is otherwise pretty much stock and looks brand new.I am unable to post any pictures on this thing even though I have tried numerous times. If you send me your e-mail address,I will forward you some pictures of the Max and my very nice black 81 SH which I bought new and it still looks like it did then but has some work to say the least. My e-mail address is nhrasg@charter.net

Well, I was with SWMBO grocery shopping today, saw a CYCLIST magazine, it had a picture of a prototype of the 2006 V-Max in it. I didn't buy the mag, thought I could find it ONLINE, but NO! Motorcyclist magazine, yes, but not Cyclist!

Anyways, while on MCist online, I did search for V-max, and came across this interesting quote in an article reviewing the V-rod! Nice to see our beloved get a mention!!
Where in models past Harley has labored to hide the chassis, the V-Rod's skeleton is unabashedly exposed. This follows the trend toward ever-tricker performance customs; see the chapters on the Honda VTX (June '01), Kawasaki Mean Streak (page 42) and Yamaha Warrior (September '01) for the details; and a renewed emphasis on outright speed. (It's all a big cycle, then, as we return to the days of the XS Eleven Special, the V65 Magna, the first V-Max; only this time with V-twins.)
Here's an article comparing the Triumph III to the V-max!

      MClist mag T-III vs. V-max

I, too, think that the aforementioned V-max isn't that pretty, sorry! However, these are of the 2005 stock V-max and they look pretty good! I didn't realize that this last year was the 20th anniversary of the V-max! Enjoy.

        Slow Maxes

All those bogus times garnered here of late (11.30 E.T.'s) on V-Maxe's in head to head test with the Triumph Rocket III are being made aboard California Maxe's which have different camshaft's,carburetor's and are equipped with a emission's evaparation canister and are rated at 135 h.p. versus 142.5 for the 49 state model's.The Triumph with the missing lung is also $5,000 more money than the Max, which will buy a lot of V-Max goodies as all V-Max owners know. The Max has a center stand and you can pick it up if you drop it in the front yard versus needing a tow truck with a crane if the big Rocket goes down. The Max at $10,000 is the best cruiser bargain out there and the fastest. With a Corbin seat,it's ready for some serious cruising or blasting down the interstate looking for Rocket's and V-Rod's.Do not buy a California model. If you are thinking about buying a used V-Max,check the Yamaha part's site as there are some subtle difference's made to the Maxes over the year's.

Also the older ones are faster than the newer ones.

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung

Well she won't run with a Hayabusa on top end but will thump most anything else with a terminal velocity of 150 mph...STOCK. AND...AND you're not folded up into a pretzel like a crotch rocket.

A couple guys at the zrxoa are posting their tickets from the strip and they are running high 9's in the quarter. The only mods they have are a pipe and jets...and extended swingarm. Of course they only weigh 140 lbs.

Plus it takes corners like it's on rails and has a riding position very similar to the XS11 standard. All for a mere $7,000 new...out the door. However the Kawboys quit building the ZRX1200R this year.

The really cool thing about this bike is how well it responds to mods. Mine picked up a whopping 15 rwhp from nothing more than a Muzzy pipe and re-jet.

Some guys are seeing dyno runs of 140 rwhp and 90 ft-lbs of capital "T" with just a pipe, ZZR cams and re-jet.

If you're looking for Old School styling with the kick of a Ninja check out a ZRX1200. I've seen good used ones on Ebay go fer $4500.

PS: This bike ain't bad on long road trips either. I have soft tail and saddle bags for it. Took it on a 1300 mile trip back in Novenber and had a blast. But the Sargent seat was a HUGE improvement over the stocker.

Apparently, the new BMW K 1200 checks in at 167 hp, and just set a land speed record at Bonneville, up over 170 mph. I wonder how they'll be doing in 25 years?

Clarification maybe in order. A lot of people may not realize BMW makes about 4 or 5 models of the K 1200...including the R, S, LT, GT.

The K 1200R is similar to the ZRX 1200R...a naked standard sports. Top speed on it is similar to the ZRX... about 155 mph.

The K 1200LT is Beemers version of a Gold wing. Top speed in it is about 135 mph.

The "K" of which you speak is the K 1200S. It is a supersport much like a ZX12R Ninja, or Hayabusa. It is a BADD motoscooter....and yes top speed on it is 172 mph published.

The 1200S/1200R are completely different animals than the 1200 LT. Both are in fact inline fours but the R and S series are 1151 cc racing engines. The LT is an 1171 cc tuned down tourer.

I figured you already knew this Ken...but some people still think of horizontally opposed twins when they think of Beemer. In this instance nothing could be further from the truth.

Finally: In 25 years? I doubt the I-4 1200 will hold together much more than 60 or 70,000 miles. OTOH...The BMW twins are very durable but then they are only making 60+ horsepower.

This bike is sterling and sexier than Anna Nicole in her PRIME.A black one with silver wheel's would have forced me into a divorce as I would have had to have gotten one, after which the little woman would have thrown me and all my toy's out.I will have to be content with my black Max and tricked out XS,at least for a little while.

Dan...YOU ARE SIC! The only viable color for a Kaw is GREEN!

But then you don't need no stinkin' green cow. You gotta V-MAX!

Well If I had your money I'd be ridin' a V-Max TOO!

Let's see,an 85 V-Max is already 21 year's old,you think the thing's will be around another 10-15 year's considering the fact they are still making them?It look's like Max is going to become marathon Max and out live them all.The only thing older than a V-Max that can still rock and roll is Mike Jagger himself and even he is suspect and thought to be a mummy that is lip-synching.

I keep hearing rumors Yam may re-design the V-Max. The problem with that idea is why would they tinker with such great sucess. It's like re-inventing the wheel.

                              New Vmax?

Yamaha have already shown a prototype.

I like it as is,but if the chassis were a little stiffer and had better tire's and they made the motor a 1500 cc I would be the first in line for another one,but would keep the original as I did with my XS as some thing's are right from the gitgo.
