  • Removining hand grips 89 Venture Royal

Has anyone added heated grips to a venture royal (89) and how do you remove the Grips. I couldn't get them off.

It's not the speed that will get you it's the sudden stop.

Hey duster, I had mine off a couple of years ago, don't remember having a problem. So they probably came off like all others - twist, grab, pry, pull, grunt, and then try blowing them off at a garage, high pressure air.

The high pressure air is supposed to work like a dream, as long as nobody has filled the bars with lead shot or silicone to deaden vibrations....

If you're not concerned with saving them, I've found a razor knife works wonders on old grips

Now that we have the grips off, what is a good glue to use on the new ones?

I've heard that a light shot of hairspray helps them to slide on and glue them in place.

Cheap can of Final Net works agood as it did 30 yrs'ago. Use it on my moto-crosser regularly as were always changing grips. Works better than Renthall Grip Glue. Let it set several hours or as with our moto-crossers, give'em a inside shot of compressed air after there on. Next change, guarentee you'll have to cut them off!

                  Yet another use - - -

                  - - - for WD40.
Like JWSanders sez:- If you don't want the old ones, slash 'em off.
OTOH if you want them off intact, shove a long skinny screwdriver in between the bar and the grip and squirt a generous shot of WD40 in there. Pull the screwdriver out then twist the grip off.
Works for putting them on too. They slither about like crazy at first but left for 24 hours they are fixed solid.

i was going to say just cut them off if you dont want to keep them and hairspray is a good way to keep the new ones on

Thanks, I would never have thought of something like hairspray to put new ones on! I just got some foam grips I'm anxious to get on and try out.

                              PBR?

                              Hi John,
2 million+ hits on PBR but from context I suspect that kf4amn means the initials to signify Pabst Blue Ribbon which is a pathetic American substitute for beer.
