I've had two V65's (VF1100C), and I think they are my favorite bike that I have owned. I have a nice '85 right now.

I love riding them, but working on them is a pain in the keyster. But, like anything else, once you get some experience, it's not as bad.

So I was all proud of myself for finally dialing in the carbs on the V45 and getting it running nicely when, upon taking it for a test run, quickly discovered that it popped out of 2nd. Suffering from a severe case of Deja Vu as it was the nightmare of the XS11 all over again. Having invested too much at this point, I've found and ordered the suspect replacement gears, shifter drum and forks on flea-bay. Got the fluids drained and am preparing to flip the bike and attempt the necessary parts swap - hopefully without pulling the motor or splitting the cases. As with this site, V4MuscleBike.com has proven to be a valuable resource. Have you torn down your V65 yet Mike?

I did everything except split the cases on my previous V65. I rebuilt everything and then discovered the frame was bent. So I took it all apart AGAIN and replaced the frame.

My current V65 came with a rod knock that became loud enough to diagnose with a couple of hundred miles. I did an engine swap on this one.

I have not had any transmission problem so far (knock n wood).

Here is the frame swap in progress:
