    Hi,

I've just purchased a 1981 XS850E to use as a winter hack while my babies are laid up in the garage. It's in fairly good condition............but, when it's warm, it idles between 2000 and 3000 rpm. Turning the tickover screw doesn't seem to make any difference.

    Any ideas guys?

    Cheers from the sunshine isle

I got an 850 myself, same problem until I sinc'd the carbs. Check the forum on this site for that procedure...

Won't idle down.....? Check that there's enough free play in the throttle cable. Might be too tight, holding the throttle open. Also, try spraying some carb cleaner around the manifold, carbs, etc when running. Could have an air leak/vacuum leak. If it sucks some of the juice into the engine from somewhere... you should hear a difference in the rpm.
