      Tires First....Then Badges and Bits

      LOL!

The badges will be in place for the VYR (Vintage Yamaha Rally)!

There is one major project remaining..... TIRES! Although the current rubber "LOOKS" good, these tires are far beyond the recommended 7 year life limit. Additionally, they are mis-matched which is just as bad if not worse than too darn old. I can't trust these with my life!

Once the tires are replaced I can do more than drive around the neighborhood and finish up all the tidbits including brand new tank badges at $50 each. I had to install the decals before I started putting gas in the newly refinished tank...... Contamination of the paint with fuel made it important these were on and cured before gas was introduced.

This was definitely not a low-budget restoration: Powder Coated Frame, Brake Lines, Rings, Complete Gasket Set, Reproduction Seat Cover, ALL new cables, Complete refurbish of the carbs, New internal Starter Clutch, External Oil Cooler, Re-Paint, Decal Kit, Tank Liner System, Wheel Bearings and Seals, Various missing bits & pieces replaced........

Several parts came from Europe as these bikes were available there for 5 years vs. the 1 year offering in the U.S.A.

          Badges Ordered... Len @ XJBikes

          Marty,
The badges are on the way.... The last $100 needed to finish her off!

Last week I installed new tires and repainted the rims.....

Can't see 'em with this photo but these are new Pirelli's mounted on the refurbished rims, with NEW bearings, New Seals, and a proper balance.

There is a bit of carb tuning to complete and OF COURSE those STINKING BADGES!

The only regret is that I didn't paint the motor when it was in a 1000 pieces or at least before I put it back in. I'm afraid that trying to paint it in the newly powder coated frame and without full access will make it look like a turd. Someday I'll paint it properly. It'll have to do for the VYR.

Nice! And just look at the stable of xs’s hanging in the background....did you ever see one of those SECA 900s around? The guy down the street used to keep one in jail in his garage down the street. I tried to buy it from him a few times but he seemed happy to let it sit....

                      Check the STUPID stuff first!

                      XS Friends,
These HITACHI carbs have been kicking my butt. I checked everything! 10X!

Well seems the STUPID stuff was the cause. Dropped a port cap and when I went hunting for it I found this.

Nothing wrong with the HITACHI carbs now..... Perfectly adjusted and the machine runs absolutely great.

Checked and re-checked: Valves, Compression, Cam Timing, Timing, Carb cleanliness, fuel flow, butterfly valves, every %#$^@* thing only to find this stupid deal all by accident..

                      Running good now!!!
