Honda CT70 - Remember These?

I used to know a kid named Guggenheim who had a brand new one just like the one in the OP when I was a lad. I thought that was the coolest thing going. But I didn't have a name hooked in with a famous museum, so I had to make do with one of these... used.

That happen to me. I registered my 83 GPZ a few years ago and I did not get a title back. I miss not having a title. My 80 XS11 does not have a title either.Lorax,
Actually, I believe in most (maybe all?) states the CT70 IS LEGAL FOR USE ON THE STREET! I have a Georgia tag on mine! I lived most of my childhood and young adult life in Pennsylvania where they are also legal for use on the street. In Georgia, all I had to do was put a rearview mirror on it (bicycle mirror) and it's ready to roll: Licensed and Insured!!
I don't have a "Title" for mine either but in Georgia they WILL NOT issue a title on ANYTHING over 20 years old. If you purchase a bike/car with a title and turn it in when you register the bike you won't get one back.

Got mine
I've got a 1970 model, had it since about 1980, my dad bought it for $150, fixed some broke stuff in the kickstarted and I've had it since. Original red paint with a few scratched & such, broken passenger foot peg, carb needs cleaned, throttle cable sticks, got the original tires on it( they don't hold air very well any more, good for a day or so and then they're flat again) got a 1/4" tear in the seat, I'll try and get a pic posted, I've been threatening to pull it out and make it go again for some time, might. E a good time to do it. The only real issue it has is that I haven't seen the title since before my dad passed (1995). But it's not like it's street legal, so it's a minor issue after all. Have a nice day and ride safe

Brcree,
Thanks for the note on dratv.com, I will check them out. I used a bunch of parts from "Northeast Vintage Cycle" and had good luck with them for these CT70 parts. I don't know the web address off the top of my head but google should provide that with ease.
I will do a top-end rebuild soon on this bike, right after the XS is 110%.
The parts are soooo tiny in there!
The earlier models (69, 70, 71, 72) seem to command the highest resale prices (models with speedo integral to the headlamp). Although they all can fetch some unreal resale prices those are the best and hardest to find.

I have one myself this same color. Mine needs to be stripped down and repainted. 69 model. dratv.com is a great sight for parts!. Redid my top end.....easy and not expensive. Don't know how to insert a pic of it in here. Great little ride!Leave a comment:

You can be 10 again.... GO GET ONE!
You can also watch YOUR Grand-Kids drive all over on one too just like your grandpa did!!
I managed to the 70 started on Sunday. Took several dozen kicks which should really only be one or two kicks. It's got new points & condenser but I think she's a little low on compression or needs a valve adjustment...Haven't spent much time investigating.
The bike only has 894 miles on the speedo but that's probably quite a bit for a little tiny bike. It also wasn't taken too good care of either (like my Ugly Duck). All inclusive I've spent about $750 on the CT70 with the most expensive part being the replacement seat at about $120. I still need to replace the handle bars ($70 +/-) but haven't gotten around to it. They're pretty rusty. Just about any part on these little bikes is available re-pop.
If I see another one for cheap I'm gonna grab it. There are guys over on the Mini-Trail site (lilhonda.com) that have a DOZEN+ of them..... Kinda like some of the guys here with a whole bunch of XS11's

Remember them?
I had one when I was a kid!
My first bike. My dad bought it for me for Christmas.
It was freezing cold that Christmas morning in Oklahoma when I found it under the tree, but I didn't care! Couldn't wait to ride it all over my grandfather's 20 acre pasture! Best Christmas...ever! Rode it all day, every day... sunup to sundown.
Why do ya think I love motorcycles so much??
I loved mine. Those little 70's would run pretty good too!
Great trail bikes.
Love the paint job you did! Awesome!
Man... After seeing yours it makes me wanna be 10 again............
'Course, it was just me and my one year old brother living on a farm out in the country.
Had no idea back then I actually was one of "the cool kids!"Last edited by XJOK2PLAY; 08-03-2015, 06:16 PM.Leave a comment:

Almost bought one when I was looking for a bumper bike for my truck/camper combo. But I got a smoking deal on a AT1 that the electric start and turnsignals were still on it and worked. Tad faster than a CT.
They were a absolute hoot to ride around on and seemed almost unstoppable. And if it did bog down, you just jump off and drag it out
One of my boating buddies still has a mint Honda Mini Trail. Last time I saw it, it was pushing 25 miles on the clock.
