Gasket Swap Between '79 XS1100 and 850?

My mechanic asks:
"Do you mind if I scrounge some of the spare parts off of your broken carbs for my 850 carbs? Your carbs racks have what appear to be a much more durable float bowl gasket made out of rubber. Mine were paper and just fell apart."

The 850 is Yamaha . . . will the float bowl gasket interchange for him? Or do I need to know the year of the 850? Thanks!

Unless he swapped his Hitachi carbs for Mikuni MKII's, they are not the same float bowl. However, the gasket is similar by appearance, as most are. He is better-off buying gasket material and making his own.

carb parts swap

I had an old 750 triple parts bike, and I used some bits from the carbs for the 1100 carbs. The 750 carbs used the early eleven carb parts but some later stuff did swap.

Correct. The 750's used Mikuni MKI/MKII carbs. However, the 850's used Hitachi carbs.
