I don't know if it has been mentioned but the carbs on these bikes are very sensitive to impurities in the fuel. The one I had filled the rear cylinder with fuel a couple times. I should have put fuel filters on it the first time I had the carbs apart.

I replaced 1 cracked float and both float valves because of flooding problems. Although the tank looked clean there was just enough rust to send an occasional particle down the fuel lines and that was enough to stick the float valve open...

Thanks Geezer. I replaced all the fuel lines with tygon and put a new filter on.

The main tank had rust and it's getting cleaned so I'm running it on the reserve tank. It had some black nasties in it but I cleaned it out.

OK, I got the another set of diaphragm springs and here's the difference.

The ones on the left are the first set I got and the ones on the right are from an 82 920, according to the parts fiche the exact same part # as the 86 1100.

They helped but it still isn't right. It still wants to resist when the throttle is cracked open more than 3/4. Below that it pulls good and is smooth.

Ok, what tune is it singing ("Rich" girl, "lean" on me) when resisting above 3/4 throttle? Refresh me?

This is what the plugs look like after the limited riding I can do with 09 tags and the reserve tank.

They really don't look bad considering there is no intake boots or air filter on it.

Here's a short video of what the issue is. As you can see at the last run at the end there is no problem as long as I keep the throttle under 3/4.

                Sounds awesome.

There's a pretty big difference between those springs! Is the bike still missing the airbox/filter?

For a quick check, run the bike up to where it starts to cut out, hold the throttle and turn on the enrichener/choke.

If it gets better with more fuel it's lean, worse its too rich.

                .

I think I may have figured out the problem. I assumed that the larger jet went in the rear cylinder to help with cooling.........WRONG. It goes in the front cylinder.

Also, there may be a difference in the emulsion tubes.

Confused yet? Stay tuned for the NEXT episode.

That was why the.... face Greg........and the answer is no.
Although, I love that model and Yammies more finer finishes on motor pieces than the other Jap comparibles, lookin' at that area's access always refrained me............kinda like the V-45's/V65's Magna/Sabres with their two side-draft/two downdraft Kiehn carbs, with the upper ones only being able to see the carb drains on them........still love their power and bottom grunt tho.

BA80, what's the status after discovering the jetting between front and rear was opposite what you thought it was?

I pulled those #$%@** carbs again and swapped the jets, checked the emulsion tubes and needles and found they are both the same.

I did also find a broken o-ring on the intake boot for #1 cylinder and repaired that also.

The bars are off the bike right now so I haven't had an opportunity to run it up the street yet.

OK, sorry for not getting back for a while. Been busy with other stuff.

Got it out for a real short test today. (Tulsa seems to be thinking it's Seattle today, miserable drizzle all day) The popping is STIIL THERE on WOT. Nothing I do to the carbs seems to make a difference. Starting to think it's something electrical. But, WHAT would be affecting it only at WOT?
