    We must have had twin" XX's" Stan.......

    Back to the XS650, my guess it has something to do with the carb for that cylinder either a sticking float, plugged inlet screen......on the electrical side of things, perhaps a shorting plug wire or bad plug cap......also look for short to ground on the ballast resistor.
    Ignition problems tend to be more catastropic (that spelt rite?)...best of luck finding the problem, you'll be the better mechanic because of it.

      The is a new XS 650 board mostly guys from the old one that became unreliable, The is also a mailing list for the 650 on Micapeak.com that is very active

        Hey AWD Just yesterday i had a 400 Suzuki with the same prob. Carb boots ( between carb & cyl. ) was leaking like H..L. Put some sealer on ,no more leak, runs A1. Check it out, spray some WD 40 around boots. bkr
