Interestingly enough, my first ever bike was an XS750, 78 model..Macho Maroon, Standard, DOHC. Even though it was a complete POS, I am still sentimental about it. If I ever found the same year / model I would have to think heavily about buying it, especially if it were as much of a POS, so this time I could fix it instead of trading the entire bike for clutch cover to a CB750C.

The funky, shafty triples have their place. This one has a place in my garage...

Got one? Let's see some pics.

I re-built an 850 in 2011, as a project. Went through the courts to get a title and everything. It felt good to get it back on the road!

I had an xs750 once. I think I expected too much out of it after being on an xs1100 as my first street legal bike. It still put up with all my ****, thats all I ask for in my bikes.

I know what I like and it’s relevancy to the outside world or history is actually pretty minimal.

I really dig the old triples. Have (2) 11's and (2) 750 triples. Good scoots and like their bigger brother, they share 2nd gear woes. Next venture is the 850 but that'll be next winter.

                  Alternate XS1100 rides

Ok, so some of you have ridden/owned the little sister bikes (XS650/750/850). Do they pretty much ride and handle the same?

I'd like to get something that rides different than the 1100, and was thinking a cruiser might fit the bill.

I've already got a sport bike to get back on the road, and I suspect it will ride and drive somewhat similar to my 1100, or at least be different than the 1100 in the direction I'm not excited about going if you get my drift.

There's an XS750 here in town that's close to my budget, but if it's pretty much the same as an 1100, then I don't think that's the direction I want to go either.

Any suggestions for a "relaxed ride" bike on a budget (good MPG is a plus)?

The XS650 is pretty good at being just about anything you want it to be and the parts are available to do it. The Special has a relatively relaxed ride, but swap to an 18 inch wheel and narrow tire on the back and it's twitching to get into a corner.

Oh boy, the 750 is nothing like the 11 when it comes to riding characteristics. The 750 is much lighter and easier to maneuver around corners. However, they are pretty much duplicate bikes when it comes to working on them. I have three of them and get them out in-between riding the 11. And, they are much easier on gas.

                            is there a diffrence xs750/850

Hi there, Me again ,,, I have what I think is a 77 750 triple ,, no title , runs good , and good trans that don't have the dreaded 2nd gear problem.
So the question is , is it possible to install a 750 motor on a 850 frame ,, or does anyone know if theres a difference in a 77, verses a 78 ,, xs750 frames. I bought a 77 frame to fit my 78 triple ,, but theres a lot of diffrences , much more than I would expect ! ,, so I was hopeing that someone here could coment on what I wrote. ,, thanks in advance as I know someone will probly have my answers ,, Bruceifer

i dont see why you couldnt swap them. I know the front mounts are the same. my 850 had cracked mounts so I used the 750 pieces. the generator is wired a little. My 750 77 750 generator wouldnt fit the 850
