    A gal asked my son...

    .. to get this little Honda Rebel running again for her. The starter would only go about a half turn and lock up for some reason. One cylinder looks just fine. The other... not so much.














    Anyone got a spare 250 Honda Rebel motor layin' around? lol.

    Ok, this seems to be much more common in a MC engine than I have ever seen in automobiles. What in the world causes the valve head to drop off the shaft like that?

      probably over heating/ lean mixture on an air cooled engine.

          After reading about them some, I guess it's a problem for the valves in them to stick in the valve guides or seals if they sit a bit. WHen they're supposed to retract, they just sit there like idiots and let the pistons run into them. Instead of bending, apparently these valves are a bit more brittle at the stem. I've seen several pics like it of these little motors.

                how does the valve collets dislodge in a valve?
                if it was over revved and caused valve bounce
                the valve stays open and then collides with the piston
                after the valve has broken then the collets might drop out,
                but not before hand, but as u say a mute point.

                        No, this gal just bought this bike. Previous owners said it fell over in a wind storm and wouldn't start after that.

                              Most Valves are 2 pieces. The head is fused to the stem. You wack the head with an aluminum hammer (piston) it will break off the stem. This is why Hi performance Automotive valves are 1 piece stainless. They take a better a$$ kicking before breaking or bending
