  • Advise on YCIS please !!

I'm helping a friend on a 82 XJ650J. Just had a bad leak from the head and cylinder and needed carb work. Has around 140 compression on all cylinders. Thinking PO had done top end job as there were 2 new cylinder studs. The leak could have been fixed if I had retorqued every nut and started it to check, as they all seemed loose while tearing it down, but I didn't. I removed head and cylinder and have new gaskets.
My concern is when tryin to synch the carbs later, what to do with the YICS. I have never done it before, as mine is a 79 Standard.
Does the advertised tool eliminate that system all together or is it just to install while doing the synch and then removing?
    Where can I get one?
Any help will be deeply appreciated.

    Hi Al,

You can get the YICS Eliminator from me, just follow the link in my sig below. I recommend that you install the tool and leave it there, this eliminates the YICS system and you won't have to deal with it anymore. Just synch it like you would your 79 Standard.

      Thanks Yahman.

Just to ascertain, with your experience, will this tool fit the XJ 650 J ?
      Thanks again.

Yahman 's tool is an excellent fix for this . But ... if the head is off I would thread and plug those ports. Done , goodbye YICS forever. If the head is not off then then the YICS Eliminator is the only way to go. Just Me. Now Yahman will charge me double if I need one.

Don't think Yahman will treat you that bad.
You are making a valid point, especially to someone who might not have the money to buy the tool but has the resources to thread and plug the holes.

                Hey Al,

There is a thread on here somewhere with pics of the plugs in place on a YICS head. TRBig did this to his head.

Basically just tapped the holes for whatever next size up is from the port size, and used a pipe cap of the appropriate size. I believe he used some teflon tape or pipe dope to ensure a good seal. Something that will take the heat the head sees.

Just occurred to me that small freeze plugs(oil galley) could be tapped into those ports, maybe followed by JB weld or Hi Temp silicone. Dunno but worth investigation.
