  • XJ550 float bowl wet set fuel level

In doing these carbs, i needed to wet set the float levels. As you can see, there was no nipple to attach the hose to. I knew there had to be something to mend this problem. I had had the same problem on my XS1100. I trucked on over to the hardware store and looked for anything that might be adaptable for this purpose. I came across some small aluminum tube, also copper, and steel, and stainless. Having a float bowl with me, i tried a few sizes. The 9/32(.014) seemed just a little big, but very doable. My first step was to cut four 7/8" pieces with the tubing cutter. It seemed as though it could be pressed into the hole. I found a 6MM bolt and washer about 16MM long, and inserted this as a driver to protect the tubing. This tubing pressed right in with a little help from my ball pien hammer. They were solid, and had an added bonus. In pounding them in, they flared the end just slightly for a ridge for the hose to hold on. I don't believe there will be any problem with them remaining in the carbs, we will just wait and see when i get it going. Thought i would post the pics as well.

Doing a set of 550 carbs now. I use clear vinyl icemaker tubing. 1/4" OD I think. It fits real good inside those bowls. Home Depot. About 3-4 bucks for 20ft

not that it makes to much difference,
but if u swap float bowls 1 and 3 it might
make it easier to get to the drain screws.
