      First real bike

Xs650 was my first real bike after a few "mopeds".
Still got and will never ever sell it.
Maybe the 11 has got to go some day (unlikely), but the 650 never!

        xs650

xs650 definitely a fun bike dependable to . Funny how some bikes get that cult following. Still given a choice 1100 for me. Wanted one for so long.Should be a poll on second bike choices from that era.

I concur. The 650 is a fun little bike around town, but after riding an 11 for so long, I wasn't very impressed with it's stability and comfort on the highway.

I like the 650s but they do vibrate more than I would like to take a very long fast ride on. Just running around town they are great.

I have a XS650 Special sitting in the "GO" position, right beside my XS1100 Special. I've had the 650 since new and I always seem to like it more and more. It has a lot of character and it's simple and reliable. It's also more fun to ride in the twisties than the 11.

I have a strong preference for the XS11 when I'm going long or two-up. The XS11 is far more comfortable because I'm too tall for just about anything!

I usually choose to hop on my 650 and go whenever I'm running a few errands or riding to work. It's also has the advantage of replacement parts.

I had just finished customizing my XS1 and I was in heaven. Wide back tire, custom paint, rebuilt top end, chromed out engine. Then the XS11E came out and I was seduced by the power and smoothness. Unfortunatly there was only room for one bike. Even with all the vibration and the chain slinging crap all over, I still miss that 650 sometimes.

All those oil spots on your back is part of the character.

Right you are Marty. When I see those old 650's, It reminds me of the good old days. Like winding the 650 all the way out in the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel at 2 AM. Before insurance surcharges, video surveillance and oh yes, responsibilities.

                      die hard

Since I was 16 I have owned 6 of them.

My first XS 650 was a Heritage Special.

I totalled it in a parking lot doing less than 20. Spent a month in the hospital 8 days, I think in I.C.U.

Went to Okinawa and bought a few more.

Specials and Special IIs sweet bikes all of them.

Built a chopper out of one awhile back and loved it.

Looking for one for SWMBO........ She likes the look of the Heritage and she loved the vibration of the motor I stuck in the chopper. She did all the testing on it for three months. I did all the final tweaking.

So, maybe the vibrations aren't a bad thing

here's a shot of finished chopper.....

I currently have 4 two choppers and two waiting for my next projects . If you have a chance to get one buy it there getting harder to find....

actually I built it for him.... it is a long story.... One you'd have to hear out loud... It was a major disappointment for him until I told him I'd do it.
