  • Solvang Date set+ Tax Relief Ride

    Lads-
Looks like it’s the 4th & 5th of June for the Spring Solvang Rally.
Diver Ray & I were thinking April 15th would be an appropriate date for a ride over Mt. Hamilton. Let’s call it the “Tax Relief Ride.” There is a café called “Breakfast Only” which is right next to “Road Rider” on Monterey Rd. in San Jose. We figured it would make a good rendezvous spot.
“Road Rider,” if you don’t know, is probably one of the best all around bike accessory stores anywhere. If you need/want something for your bike, save your bucks and buy it here: their prices are excellent!
I’ll post directions to “Breakfast Only,” and more details at a later date.
Ray and I are doin’ it, so consider it a ride. If one or two others (or more) want to join, we would be TOTALLY stoked.

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

Geez I wanna go!!! (the Hamilton ride)
Besides being dizzy (still) I work on Saturdays till 2 pm.
Are you just riding up to the observatory and back down or going over the top and comming down this (east) side?
If comming this side are you going Mines rd to livermore or Del Puerto to Patterson?
I might have to call-in sick that day.

What is the plan for Solvang? I thought that was a day ride too. I'm off on Mondays.

        Been following the post.
If other things don't get in the way I'd like to do the local ride with you guys. Weekend/weekdays are pretty much the same for me and have to work when/where I can.

Won't know for sure until that week.

damn... the dates for 'runs' change a LOT here...

April 15th; my daughter will be here, for the 1st time in 2 yrs (she lives in Spain now), and leaves/returns the *next* day

and June 4th/5th is just a couple of days after the SWMBO and I get back from her 50th b'Day trip to 'Lost Wages'...

...I'm STILL planning on a ride through Yosemite May 20th/21st if anyone is interested. 'goin' to NV for the hell of it...

Come on guys its about us(The Group) and not about me. I'm third owner and the bike has good character worn into it. I'll wear the bag you guys lead the way.

Do you know the way to San Jose? Just joking!

You guys are making me wish I still lived in Hanford. SWMBO and I took a trip up to SF on the old XS 650 back in the 80s. Damn, those were good times... Oh well, at least I still have SWMBO.

                      Tax Relief Ride

Great response! Ray and I were thinking about meeting for breakfast around 10 AM then having a leisurely putt up to the summit with a few photo stops along the way. Those living on the other side of the mountain may want to take that way down: I’ll wait and see how I feel at the time.
Leave it to my Jewish wife to point out to me that I picked the day before Easter for a ride. I noticed that no one else has brought it up as an issue.
Sorry if everyone can’t make it, but it ain’t the end of the world if you can’t. I’m checking into a popular annual Classic Car & Motorcycle show that I heard about happening in Half Moon Bay in early May. That might be a good meeting place a for a weekend ride.
I’d like to see us getting together for a ride at least once a month.
I’ll post last minute details about the 15th as the date approaches.

                            LoHo, and all,
Breakfast will be next door to this shop:
                            Road Rider Motorcycle Accessories
2897 Monterey Road, San Jose CA 95111
The easy way to find it is take Capital Expressway West from 101, and go North on Monterey Road. Road Rider is just about 1 mile up, on the left. The restraunt will be on your left, as you make the left across Monterey Rd. That way we have parts and breakfast as a "one stop" shopping.
Gas can be had on the way out, before we start the climb. I am thinking of going over to the valley, as it's been YEARS since I've done that ride.

breakfast (lunch for me) at 10.
Let's see..... if I leave here at 8 and take freeway
                              or
leave here at 7 and go over the Mountain twice .... that way I can warn of any hazards.
