Last week I got a little dizzy before heading to work. By the time I got to work I was very dizzy. An hour later I was dizzier still. I hear phantom sounds in my left ear (like a million crickets chirping) along with intermittent 'rushing' sound.
Fortunately I work at a hospital. I wobbled to ER and was immediately admitted.
Dr's initial diagnosis is Mineres Syndrome, also called Lybrynthitis or Vertigo.
It's now a week later and things are no better.
I've seen 2 Dr's now and they both say the same thing as with everything I've read on-line.
No know cause, no known cure. It's an infection of the fluid of the inner ear, viral in this case.
It may last 5 minutes, 5 months, 5 years. Could last the rest of my life and if it goes away may come back anytime.
I've been driving the truck for a few days and rode the bike yesterday and today. It wasn't enjoyable.

For now I'll just wait and see what happens. Nothing has stopped the dizzieness and the crickets won't quiet down.

Rode to work again today (kind of have to). I've started my own strange therapy.
I go in the yard and spin till I get nearly sick. When it subsides the 'normal' spinning I feel seems less.

Now "Ear" this!

Hey Pat,

Sorry to hear about your inner ear malady!! What medicines IF ANY have they prescribed for you?? A common prescription is MECLIZINE, similar to Dramamine, but with less side effects like drowsiness!!!

I remember watching a recent episode of Myth Busters, they were investigating natural cures or prevention for motion sickness, which is brought about by overstimulation of the inner ear canals. They found that GINGER was a very good preventative. It is also used in homeopathic treatments for motion sickness. And....it definitely doesn't cause drowsiness!!

Just wanted to mention these as possible things to try to help reduce your symptoms!?

TC took the words out of my mouth. We use meclizine (antivert) with great success in the ED all of the time. I agree that maybe a trip to the ENT specialist is in order if symptoms don't go away after a week.

I triple that Pat. My wife was in an accident and has had some inner ear problems since then. The Meclizine really helps her function. Not 100%, but she can function without feeling like she's going to be sick. Good luck and sppedy recovery.

ED doc has me on 50 mg Meclazine. My primay Dr said to try 75 mg if I could handle it.
Today I rode the MNS and it seemed like, for a minute or two, that it subsided (wishful thinking?).
Maybe I could have my Dr perscribe a roadtrip.
At the moment it remains unchanged. Time will tell. Maybe I'm just a wimp.

I know it's probably worse than what you can explain or describe on here. Good luck and keep us informed. Why couldn't stuff like this happen in the winter when you aren't riding anyway???
