  • Got to ride yesterday

Riding in January in Maine and not freezing ones keester is a rare event. Was in the high 40's, sunny and dry. Was working on my new MRV ( motorcycle recovery vehicle), a 98 Dodge Ram 4X4 I got cheap cause it needed a lot of basic maintanence. Was out in the mud freeing up the front brake calipers and heard several bikes going up the hill.

The weather was supposed to deteriorate by the time I got done, so just put it out of my mind. Got done and it got cloudy and gusty, so thought, ok thats it. Went inside, and came back out after awhile and it was nice again. Decided I'd better do it now or regret not riding when I had the chance for the next couple of months.

Got the bike out the garage, pushed the starter button and on the second engine revolution it fired right up. Only went several miles, but it was great.

Still can't get over how great the bike fits, like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes.

Well back to hibernation for couple or more months. And yes I did see my shadow.

Out in the mud freeing up the front brake calipers...

Snork! So that's what it's called...I'll have to remember that one for the rare occasions when I start my Dodge...

      (V-10, chipped, 450 hp, 3/4 ton, 31-50's...basically 8000 pounds of kick-a$$)

Probably ought to start that cage thingy every now and again I suppose...

      (me--best puppy dog eyes)
"But honey! I haven't used it in months! Gotta free up the front brake calipers!"

      Recon that'll work?

Well my method features jack stands and wrenchs, but yours sound like a lot more fun.

Haha... I went to the gas station to "check the tire pressure" on Saturday. Broke the clutch cable bout 2 miles from the house. And my cell phone battery was dying. Sent a message to a friend, so he picked me up, went to my house for a new clutch cable (got one tossed in the pile of parts from ebay), back, 10min job and off I went. I saw another nutter on a BMW R80 on the way back.
It was cold but fun. Bought a vetter fairing with lowers and mounting brackets for XS11 on ebay today. Heck, I must be getting old. I got a set of vetter hardbags eyed too. A wop camper broke my topcase, so I got an excuse to get em
I would have to paint the lot, but I have a nice set of gas tank/seat eyed... and I'll probbably get an engine with bout 20k on it and rear shocks, rims,.... from a guy... when I persuade him he doesn't need em.... and I would like to color-match the lot.... yeah, lots of $$$ and bodging....
on the upside, the project guzzi bike started yesterday. Woohoo..... now thats a sound an XS cannot make. I'm a sucker for V-twins.

I guess you dont want to hear about our 70+ days here in January Has "plunged" to the 60's for the last couple of days. When that happens here, I see riders with more leather on than a rawhide movie. Being a transplant from Albuquerque, 40 degree days and 10-15 degree mornings are the norm. I put my lowers on just to make sure they still fit.

Went for a test ride with the guzzi yesterday evening... bout -7 centigrade, roads dry, night, minimalist mirrors, no licence plate, and a car was following me for half the ride.... thaught it was a cop. Did I mention the bike has no turn signals yet?
Anyway, almost froze my ass off, but it was fun. The looks on peoples faces were great!
