That's right, my friend, bidding early only raises the price for everyone later.

Man, I don't know about you guys, but does anyone teach a "capitalism 101" course around here? Maybe "Marketplace Dynamics and YOU," or something?

There are - were - a couple of great deals on XS1100's on eBay right now and in the last 24hours all these newbie bidders have driven - well, one went from $1 to $800 just cause two guys thought they'd be able to stay on top of the bid.

Here's some more eBay poop - in addition to the parentheticals someone suggested recently you'll also find that "quotes" help when querying multiple terms - something which has " " spaces in between the words:

(xs1100, "xs 1100", "xs eleven")

Lately though, here's my personal favorite:

http://www.eSnipe.com

Just plug in your maximum bid preference and let them place the bid at the last minute. Wait for an email notice.

Keep those auction prices down!

p.s. I wonder if these guys just sit there every minute checking the update on the bid price? ...okay, I'm done now.

snipe

I use "bidnapper". I've been using it for at least 3 years. It has quite a few options and a free trial. I think it automatically places the bid at 3 seconds from close.

http://www.bidnapper.com If you tell 'em jetmechmarty sent you, I'll get some free snipes.

I use auction sentry and really like it. Unless you are on dial-up, a software based sniper is fine. I have mine set to bid in the last 5 seconds.

Did anyone else notice the short period of time that ebay was trying to stop the manual snipers by not showing the actual time left in the last 60 secs? It just said "<1 min"

I don't know how long in lasted, but one week it did it and about a week later it didn't.

"Why... you old biddy!"

Bidding. Easy to get carried away and too competative... forgetting reality.
I was out bid in the final minutes on the 20 CD "Complete History of Punk Rock".
The winner won a "used" set... but had he looked a little closer, would have seen that a "brand new" collection a few lines down was only a few bucks more. I'd rather have "new" for a few bucks more, than a questionable cheaper "used". Applies to everything.

I use that remarkable program called "myself". I place bids at the last 10-20 seconds and have won the majority of the auctions I have wanted to. (requires a fast connection, which luckily I have) I'm not that big on using software to bid for me. Takes all the fun out of it.

At the very least, I have made the winner pay more than I was willing to to get it. And I will usually pay more than it's worth to go for a snipe. If I see an item go high early, I usually just ignore it from then on. Like Pro said, there's usually another one coming up shortly. Just like in bidding early, a big key to successful Ebaying is Patience. Its a big key to selling successfully, as well. I strongly recommend to anyone selling on Ebay to watch similar items for at least a week before posting it, and search completed listings, as well. You may be suprised just how much more you can start an item at than you first thought.

You can use that bidding frenzy to your advantage, too.

"Tips, you want tips?"

Jethro: "Uncle Jed, I think the waiter wants a tip."
Jed Clampett: "Tell him to plant his corn early."

While nursing my bruised ego at being outbid, I clicked on the name of the guy who won. This not only brought up a screen showing feedback that he's received, but also the names of the stores that he shops. Found a couple of interesting places that sell motorcycle related tools and such.
I was gonna hit the "contact member" button and ask him a few questions...
"Hey Buddy... judging from the names of the stores that you shop at, do you listen to Judy Garland records and prance around in women's clothes!"
(Don't you hate that little voice inside that tells you not to do stuff like that?)

"Interesting scam... I must try it!"

Oh, I'm still laughing!
On a whim, I decided to buy the book "How to set up your motorcycle workshop". I figure... might have a few tips in there that I could use. (I'll give a review, later)
Book retails for $19.95 (that bites!), But hey, here's a place on Ebay called Amazon-Books. They want $10.64, $5.79 to ship, and $2.40 for shipping insurance. Being Christmassy and blowing money anyway... sure, why not. $18.83.
Book arrives today. Wrapped in a package from WALMART.COM!
I fire up o'l Betsy and type in Walmart.com. Yup, there it is. $12.76 for the book and $2.47 for shipping. ($15.23)
$18.83 - $15.23 =$3.60.
Those late-night info-mercials on how to make money on the internet... don't waste your time, just do what this guy, Faraz Valaie does.
Advertise items on Ebay, and when someone buys something, order it from Walmart and have it shipped to the buyer's address. I suppose Ebay gets a cut of the guy's profit for the sale, but he makes about $3.00 out of the deal. And he's quite prolific, it seems. All his negative comments were along the lines of: "Thanks for directing me to Walmart.com for future purchases.", and "If I knew it was coming from Walmart, I wouldn't have bought it."
I believe this is the concept called "Drop Shipping"
Hey, any of you XS"ers want a Haynes manual for the XS1100? I can get you one. Send $20 to me at...

the true secret of ebay

while the seller's distracting you by bidding up his own auction with a different account, they are secretly lubing up that shipping and handling fee to stick straight in your ass.
