  • Motorcyle evolution process

We were hanging out in the garage the other night and we got off on the subject of bikes owned thru the years. I know some of us might have a longer list than others due to our two wheeled fetish or just plain old age. Anyway, heres mine in order of ownership:
Steens Taco 44 minibike (5hp Briggs)
Bonanza Hodaka Powered Mini Bike (death trap)
    Hodaka Super Rat
Suzuki 100 (pressed steel frame, circa 1970).
    Suzuki 200 Scrambler.
Yamaha RD200 electric start (I be bad, had "chambers")
Honda 450 Twin (first time doin a "c" note on the speedo).
73 Norton Combat Commando (permanent oil leak and Prince of Darkness electrical system, love those Amals)
    76 Laverda SF750
    78 Laverda 1000
    When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

At 25, my first and only bike to date is my XS11.

Can't really imagine myself owning anything else, except maybe a Midnight Special

At 13 yrs old - Homebrew Raliegh 3-speed with a 4hp Briggs & Stratton mounted. Lot's of fun, but cops hated me!

At 18 yrs - Kawa KZ400 - first actual motorcycle.

      Then,

      Kawa H1 - nuts!

Kawa H2 - Death on Wheels

      Honda CB450

      Honda CM400 (for then- swmbo)

      Suzi GS750

Yammy 81 SH ( kept this one when I dumped swmbo)

Yammy 79F Swamp Thing - finally got the bike I wanted when I was 20 but couldn't afford it! Then again, if I'd gotten it when I was 20, I'd probably have killed myself on it!

            Back in "76" a Yamaha 250 enduro.
Then a Yamaha 350 street bike.
Followed by a Harley bone rattling Sportster which I hated.
Next to a RE-5 Rotery Engine Suzuki which I kept for several years and was a great bike.
Mama let me get a Yamaha 650 MS.
            We had kids, bikes went.
Kids left home, picked up my two XS's.

Now I'm looking at a Valk to do our touring on and keeping an XS to tool around on....

I had an RM-80 when I was a teen. Wrecked it after only a few months.

I got the XS11 when I was 35. Not a thing in between. Now I want several. Trying to relive my childhood, I think. I gotta avoid the whole wrecking thing now though I'm not nearly as pliable as I used to be.

Always wanted a motorcycle. Didn't give in until last year. Bought a 1979 Honda twinstar. Repaired it, rode it, loved it, wanted something bigger. Found the XJ this spring. Repaired it, rode it, love it.

my first was a mini bike at 11, then
                      a yamaha dt175 traily,
first road bike was an xs250 '78 model, at 16 and 9 months
as soon as i could get a learners permit i got my bike,
another traily yamaha tt250, had a honda cbx750 which i thought was a pretty average bike, then didnt have a bike 4 yrs,
until i jumped on a mates bike at the beginning of the year. then got the bug back big time, looked in the paper found the biggest and cheapest bike that was selling that week which was the xs1100. Then after reading all the history and riding it, fell in luv with it.
Ill keep this 1 till it dies, hopefully that wont b for many more yrs.
                      to come.

My first bike was a Suzuki 90, paid 90 bucks for it at age 12

Next bike was a Kaw 125 enduro at 15-got restricted licence and it was my first street/dirt bike on the road.

next was a Honda CB360 at 17-that baby would fly.

And finally my XJ 1100 at age 38, with nothing in between 17 & 38,
(only thing had a shop do so far was synch it-guy that owns shop goes to same church, and only charged $25).

Love it, Ride it, fix it,

That's 32 bikes in 51 years omitting the odd bought'n'sold basket case and likely a few I've forgotten. If I'd only crated up some of those old Britbikes instead of selling them off for a pittance back then I'd be a lot wealthier now.
