Hey StreetRat,

Cycle Trader shows a new listing for one in Marietta, Ga., although sounds a little pricey for this size and age machine!?
Marietta, GA $600.00
1982 YAMAHA, XS400 street bike, runs good, needs a little TLC, $600. (Marietta) 404-396-0848… Date Placed: 23-NOV-05

.. good computer work Ken, this is what mine looks like
i built this one in 1990.. i've looked but the other one is not so easy to find on the internet

the smallest special was an 80cc single cylinder two stroke, i don't remember the model designation but they only made them for two years.. the xs400 could be made to sit pretty low but still kind of heavy for a real small person, maybe a honda 250 rebel would be a good first bike

Thanks for the hit T.C.

I may have to take a ride down to Marietta this weekend and have a looksy. Might even be able to talk 'em down a hundred or so.

Is it a Heritage (SOHC), Maxim or Seca 400 (DOHC)? I've got a Heritage and it's a really solid, retro looking (drum brakes), good handling little scoot.
Shiny side up,
650 Mike

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung

.. the xs400 is ok for a tall person, too tall and top heavy for someone short ..also watch out, at about 14000 miles the charging system takes a sh!t on those just like the 650s, too much vibration or something.
.. get her a 650 maxim, they sit lower and have better balance.
very smooth running engine also

Motorcycle evolution process

We were hanging out in the garage the other night and we got off on the subject of bikes owned thru the years. I know some of us might have a longer list than others due to our two wheeled fetish or just plain old age.
.. what motorcycles have you owned?

Not so illustrious a pedigree?!

First bike in 75 was a 67 Yamaha 305 2-stroke twin!

In 76 got a NEW(NOS) 74 Yamaha TX500 4-stroke twin for HS grad!

Rode it for 7 years in Texas and Cal, then had it shipped to Japan when got stationed there in 81!

Found a sleeper for Jap market XS850Triple ? '79model, rode it in Japan for 1.5 years.

Picked up my 81SH from fellow sailor in 83 just before my transfer back to the states. That's the last bike I've owned, and still have!
