I did an apprenticeship with the UK Atomic Energy. Ended up as a machinist/maintenance fitter. I've worked on lifts, cranes, boilers, pumps, diesels and various bits of nuclear reactor.
I now work as a calibration tech, mainly on pressure instruments. It's clean, light work and a constant temperature

Best job I do now is working on my Trike.

I'm a computer tech, mostly been at comp. service departments, even lead some, sort of unemployed at the moment.

bout wrenching bikes... started with a MZ 250, didnt have a clue what I was doing.... the guzzi was pretty much solid, so it only required tightening some bolts from time to time, kawasaki had its engine apart bout 4 times, same with XS. A friend of mine was a big help in the beginning. Still is.

              Pro mech/elect...

I worked my whole life in industry as mech/electrician, maintenance mech, and eventually getting to be the boss in the maint dept. Since 1985 I have been self employed in the field service business keeping all those machine going. I have experience with most everything you might find in industry, from simple drill presses to those five axis wonder machines. I now specialize in electrical control systems for most anything found in the factory. See my web site for more information.

                  Amphenol connectors

Amphenol, Oh yes, I see many of those and I have used quite a few on some of the machines I have built over the years. I usually see those five axis wonder machines on the Monday morning when one of those axis's won't do it's thing. Encoder problem, or servo, or ???? I usually find the documentation and prints are in Chinese or Japanese. #^*%!&() The customer doesn't like that much when he finds it will take me a little longer to get it going at $100 per Hr.

you worked at 3 mile island?

                        Hi MRO,
more people died at Chappaquidic than at 3-Mile Island. As Trikerneil apprenticed with UKAE he most likely worked on the British Magnox reactors.
Me? Apprenticed at BAC. Designed engine test plant for Concorde. Designed "some nuclear reactor parts" (emergency shut-down systems) for AECL CANDU reactors. Now retired so cannot accurately respond to quiz.

                            Hi MRO,
both my typing fingers move quite fast and my spacebar thumb is pretty quick too.
Thing is, I tend to only scan through the first page of posts and this is the first time this particular string has shown up on my screen. Come to think of it, this string was near the bottom of the first 20 when I noticed it and now it's near the top. How they do that?

                              Hi Fredintoon

I did my time on the Steam Generating Heavy Water Reactor, very similar to the CANDU.

I am a bit of a shade tree mechanic, I work on lots of crap. cars, motorcycles, snowblowers, houses. you name it, I probably have to fix something on it. I do field service in my job (Electronic troubleshooting, some mechanical, some electrical, high voltage electronics, radiation safety). so, I work as a repair guy, but not a mechanic as such.
