Finally!!!

I was finally able to get a few pics of mine. It wasn't in quite as bad of shape as Swamp Thing when I got it, but it wasn't far off. Sat outside for 7 long wet years I sure wish I had gotten some before pictures. I can't believe the headers cleaned up as well as they did. They were solid rust on the outside.

I only feel I'm about halfway. Still many small things to get right. Hope to get the front end done this winter. I have all the chrome up there to replace. I still go back and forth between polishing the motor or painting it. Torn like an old sweater!!






Even as it is, I still get all twitterpated when I look at it.

I gotta long way to go b4 im really going to be happy with it,
i think ive done a bit to it since ive only had it 4 about 8 months.
Thanx TC for redoing the pics, i thought i had used the img thingy
but it was getting late and i was getting tired and had no real clue what i was doing.
the seat was originally a king/ queen seat i got from JCwhitneys
in the us, i didnt like the round shape of the seat, after about a month i began to hack into it with an electric kitchen knife and reshaped it and got it recovered, its one of the most comfortable seats ive sat on.

Looks like a Travelcade seat cover. Is that sissy bar some Hardley Abelson item?

I uesd a wire brush on a DeWalt to get off the heavy rust from everything, then a lot of Nevr-Dull. I was amazed at how much shiney was still under there. Sadly, I was never able to keep the clamp-on muffles from leaking some. The right side header was cut too short. Luckily I have the headers and factory exhaust from the parts bike, which are in a LOT better shape then these were. Should clean up really well.

I think its a Travelcade seat, cant remember... All the catchhooks on the seat pan are gone, and the pans not in the best of shape. The cover had a drawstring on it that holds it tight to the pan.

That sissybar is from the factory, from what the PO told me. His cousin bought the bike new, he was the 2nd owner. It says Yamaha Motor Cycles it the traditional Harley pattern under the wings. A total Harly rip-off. Sometimes I think its a bit gaudy, but I kinda like it at the same time. Would look better if I had painted it the original bronze instead of gold, I think. I have a special grab rail off the parts bike that I'm really interested in putting on. May get rid of the sissybar altogether. Seems to make it look meaner.

Yeah, it's gaudy, probably not factory, probably from Yamaha USA...something they had
made up so the dealers could have accessories to sell. Nice thing about sissybars, passengers like 'em. I took the sissybar off my
XS650SJ when I first bought it and put it back on the insistance of SWMBO. Used to have one on my Matchless years ago, helped a
lot when trying to get some girl to go for a ride...nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more...

Hell, I think it looks great!! Nice job! I imagine the shaft drive was fairly easy to adapt to the rear axle. I bet it still has plenty of power, too!

Hey trike, your beast has had a few transformations from your other pics. Looks cooler each time. Lots of classy work. Great choice of motor! What mods were needed to connect the shaft to the rear?
