  • XS1100 Replacing Crown Nut on Cylinder Head

Has anyone had any experience replacing the four outer crown nuts on cylinder head by removing one nut at a time, installing the new part and re-torqueing before moving to the next one? I'm familiar with the textbook answer which is if you loosen the torque the head gasket could breech/head warpage but what I'm looking for is people who have actually done this and had success or failure with a decent amount of mileage on the motor after the retrofit.

Taking off one at a time and replacing will not hurt anything. The torque value is only 25 ft/lb. Apply oil to the threads before torquing. Yes I have done this.

I've wire brushed them with a Dremel tool and painted them Rustoleum silver. They came out pretty decent if that's what you are looking to improve.

I'm glad this has worked for a few of your motors. I am going to give it a try.

Do you remember the size and thread pitch? Is it M10 x 1.0mm?
