Hey Bandet01,
Several of us have put Big bore kits in, both 1179 and 1196cc kits. The domed pistons increased the compression ratios from 9.2 or 9.0 for later models to 10.25:1. My compression values at sea level were 180psi!! I'm just running the stock ignition and coils right now, but have no problem revving it up to 8.5Krpm in the first 4 gears, haven't had the 'nads' to take it up in 5th, plus have a little wobble that shows up at very high speeds due to my 4" over forks...with a fork brace!
I can't remember the guy that races XS11's that has posted on here, he runs a turbo on it, but I don't think any special MSD type ignition, just Accel or Dyna coils, and has enough power to twist drive shafts!!
So....I'm just saying that for the amount of racing and power and speeds you're aiming for, that the MSD might not be the best investment of your power building $$, vs. like PGGG said, porting, the big bore kit. And, yes, you can get radical cams, and slide bore carbs, but then you loose a STREET rideable machine for a track only personality. Where will you be riding this bike the most, the track or the street??
I'm really jazzed up about the chain drive conversion, and I think that is where you'll be able to add up to 20 horses worth of power over the driveshaft system, and allow you to have faster off the line times by adjusting your gearing with different sprockets, larger rear for the track, and smaller for the street!
So...I, too, am not necessarily poo-pooing the MSD, just that you may want to think about it some more, perhaps get the Accel coils, and the OTHER improvements, and see what you get, you may have enough for the performance you want, and save lots of $$ in the process!

With a twin plug conversion the flame bubble burns more evenly and there is less detonation so you can run higher compression with the same fuel. I was surprised that Harley didn’t go twin plug way back when they first brought out the Evo-engine.
Udo Geidel converted the BMW twins to twin plugs when he was tuning for the BMW racing team back in the early 80's. They were doing pretty well for twins. Later on Honda gave him a blank check to work for them...

I have see one or two twin-plug heads on Ebay for the XS1100. I wonder where they came from.Pat Kelly

If I would have won the turbo I'd ride it on the street. As long as the bike, car, truck *appears* legal I wouldn't hesitate to ride it on the street.
If it was too squirrely I probably wouldn't ride it on the street or the track.Pat Kelly
