    Brake caliper bleed screw alternative?

Hi folks, I feel like should start my own club dedicated to my problems and questions. On that note, are any of you aware of a less expensive replacement for the ’79 Special brake caliper bleed screw? I know I buy a pair at Partzilla for $40, but I was wondering is there was an equivalence out there that could be used, say off another new bike model? The Part No is 1J3-W0048-00-00.

One for an auto caliper is the same, I'll find the size for you shortly.
I don't know if you have a NAPA store over there, maybe Canadian Tire should have them.

    It's M8X1.25

Great! Yes we have NAPA auto parts up here. I’m sure the auto equivalent will be significantly less expensive than the one specifically listed for the XS. In the same way, I saw that the drain screws for the float bowls and O rings on my later carbs are being sold for $20 and as much as $70 each. I suspect that there are equivalents somewhere out there on other newer bikes that I could source. And take for example a post on this site that suggested to use a Toyota Camry thermostat gasket as a great alternative to the NOS gas cap gasket. I used it and it worked great with only $1.25 out of pocket. Anyways, thanks again Bikerphil. I look forward to your findings.
      Dan.

Yep, those drain screws for the later type carb bowls aren't going to be as easy. They are one of a kind for Mikuni carbs AFAIK. I wanted to purchase some for a set of XJ carbs I was working on not too long ago and the price was just too much. I ended up getting the stripped ones out with a small EZ out and then slotting the damaged head with a hacksaw blade so they would function again.

The cheapest I could find those screws, P/N 2L1-14191-00-00, was $16.74 ea. at Partshark.

          Bleeders? Maybe.

Looks like ‘85 through to ‘02 chev cavalier uses the same bleeder screw for its rear calliper.

I dropped a post in the forums a few months back on my experience with Sppedbleeders, a replacement I found to be superior to stock by far. A pair cost around $20 at a local chain parts store. They made bleeding so much easier, has a one way spring and ball valve inside so that you only loosen a quarter turn and just pump till fluid comes out clear, then tighten and you're done.
