i have run into a slight problem and kinda wondering if anyone might know of a way to fix this so i can ride again!!!

the problem is i can't get my fuel cap too unlock!! the key goes in and the tumbler turns but it does not engage or unlock the cap....
now,is thing spring loaded?? i've tried cleaning it in case it was gunked up but that didn't seem to work so i'm thinking something in that mechanism might have broken.....

if anyone can tell me how its supposed to work and unlock maybe i can figure this out!!!!!

    thank you much guys!

If I was home, I'd go check out my cap for ya, but alas I am no where near my beloved xs. Sorry.

You are pressing the cap down when you turn the key?
I'm not trying to be smart. When I lost my keys and went to a locksmith, he made a new key and tried it and it wouldn't unlock for him either. Until I asked him if he was pressing down.
      Then it opened like buttah.

          Raider,

You're in luck, with a Special, just get a piece of stiff metal that you can have slightly bent, and use it to grab the spring loaded latch from under the cap, and then pry it away from the lip, again, pushing down slightly on the cap, and you should be able to get it open, then you can unscrew it and take it apart, repair or replace it!
