  • I'm Home

Got home about an hour ago. I want to thank all y'all for your prayers and thoughts. I want to start by saying how thankful I am to have such friends in a group of guys who really don't know many other members pesonally, but as a group of strangers we make a pretty good group of friends. Bless you all.
I had a lot of time to think in the last ten days. That damned hospital bed and cieling are evil partners. They can plant such gloomy thoughts into a mans head. You know, a lot of things that we tend to think mean a lot to us now, really mean nothing when you are in the position I was in. Friends and loved ones matter most . Thank you my friends.
The scoop on what happened??? I drove into the side of pick up parked in someone's driveway. I had just pulled out from my buddy's , drive way, following him on his bike. We had turnrned right onto the street, and was I gonna accelerate around his KZ900 ,just to mess with him. I grabbed a quick handful of first gear, and nailed second second at about 7000 rpm and twisted again. Well as I came out of second and was going to decellerate in third, I needed to navagte a left curve in the street, so I leaned it left only to discover. to my horrow, that I had left the &$#'n kick stand down. I couldn't turn, and because of the curve in the road I was forced over the curb, onto a lawn, and right smack in the back of a pick up. I was probaly doing anout 35-40 mph. Not reall verry fast, but enough to move the truck about 3 feet. I think I was kinda detached from the seat at the curb strike, and The wheel of my bike hit the truck right behing it's rear wheel, kinda the wheel whell. I think I hit the side of the bed. I landed to the left, where the driveway meets the street. I hit the streert on my butt,a and lower back The bike landed on my feet then, My buddy was right there to lift the bike off my feet so I could get free of it. A few more guye were right ther, and stood the bike up while my my friend, Pat Kennedy tended to me. I knew Iwas hurt, and didn't even try to get up. Somebody had a cell phone, and called 911. The rest you know.
The way I look at it, is that it was pretty stupid of me not raise the kick stand. Nobodys fault but mine. I gotta go now . Thank y'all again.

                      Hey John,

Welcome "HOME", and hope you get well real soon! Are you sure your home town isn't called ...."Hurts" !

I've done the kickstand also, but it usually does bounce and gets kicked up, and I haven't been hot doggin' around a corner either!

Damn the bad luck! Hope your insurance rates don't skyrocket!

                        Hospitals!

Hospitals.... how I hate them. Always seem to get in trouble while I'm there.
Just last week I got thrown out of the place. Went in for a physical. I'm standin' around in the hallway in my little gown by the Xray lab when a sharp lookin' babe walks up and gets in line with me. We starts a talkin'.
She asks me what I'm here for, and I reply,
"I'm here for a physical and to get my hearing checked. What are you here for?"
"Oh", she says,"The heart specialist here says that I have acute angina."

So... I lifted up her gown to have a look at it!

                          so funny it hurts

That was a painfully good one.
Thanks to all for your prayers and thoughts.
The bike faired a lot better than I did. The windshield is shattered, the T/S lenses are broken, and the headlight mounting ears are bent. Headlight is intact. Working backwards, the tank has few dents, and the carbs have seperated from the airbox. The right side exhaust pipes have a kink in them right at the collector, but may be repairable. I hope so... I really like those pipes. It almost looks ridable
It looks like I will be in a very large back brace for at least three months. Most of the summer. Fortunatly, I have saved up over 5 months of sick time, I still have two weeks vacation left, and I long ago purchased a long term disability insurance.
I should be financially ok. It looks like my xs parts wheeling and dealing days are over for a while though. One good thing about the timing of this, is that when I'll be able to repair the bike, the weather should be cooling off. It has been miserably hot here for the past week or so. My electric bill is gonna be outragous trying to keep the hose comfortably cool.
My wife, Wildkat, has been a real GODSEND. She has had to go through so much in the past couple of weeks. We were in the process of redoing our kitchen and living room floors, and repainting when this happened. She had the painting done, and we had laid the new laminate floor in the kitchen. I was working on the base board moulding on Sunday. I had run out of trim material, so I called it a night at around 9 pm. Well that's when the accident happened. We still had new carpet installation scheduled, as well as delevery of this monster entertainment center that had spured all of the new floors and paint work. Anyway, back to my wife...I don't think I could have a better wife. She was/is there any time I need her. I really love her as much as a man can love a woman, and I let her know it every chance I can. She had to deal with my accident, take care of our three kids, keep the house up and running, and find time to visit me in the hospital. I think she handled eveything very well. My kitchen and living room look wonderfull! I really love the way it turned out. Some of the trim still needs finishing, but so what...it'll get done some day. The minor things aren't very important any more, if ya know what I mean.
