  • Stupid Parts Question???

Well now that its finally to cold to think about riding, I decided to begin repairing my XS. So i drove to the nearest Yamaha Dealership to order the parts i need. Now i know these bikes are old but the kid behind the desk told me they cant get parts for them. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! now is this true, are these bikes so old the dealership cant even order a few parts
or was this kid just being a lazy punk and just not looking please help i hate ordering off the internet and salvage yards and i dont get along well

Just to prove the point i ordered the Clymer owners manuel off E-Bay for 25 bucks 3 monthes later still havent recevied it and the company wont answer the phone

Bought a Oil filter bolt from a salvage yard for 32 dollars when i could have got it off PartsnMore for 6 bucks ARGGGHHHHHHHH.

    oh well Please Help Thanx!

Parts are available from the yamaha dealer, just not all of them. Keep an eye on Ebay. Sometimes even New Old Stock (NOS). Also requesting on this board in the classified section or looking for them on this board classified section might help you find some parts.
Owned by a pair of XS11's. An 80 Standard and a 79 Special.

so you think perhaps it was just this dealership. Well that stinks there the closest and thats 35 miles away. I hate living in the boonies some times hehe well maybe ill call the one in Middle Ga. But like i said im still wary of odering from ebay but if thats the best way i suppose i should just try again just not with that user
      Thanx I appreciate the help

        Parts Sources

BossHogg, just what parts do you need? We have developed lots of parts sources. Different parts from different locations but we find them. They are out there or there is another way. I know you are unlikely to find original pistons and ring sets but for hard parts like that there is always Wiesco. But almost everything else other than trim type parts are available somewhere.
        What do you need?

Rack for the wife? What is she, some kind of 'Deer"? I like the "Bumpy" backrests too.

                Hey BossHogg,

PartsNMore has many of the parts you are looking for, some of their picture links aren't working right now, so it's a little difficult to tell what they are showing ie. clutch plates, whether they are the friction/fiber or the steels, both are only $4.00 each, set of 8. Most folks don't need to replace the steels. You can also get heavy duty clutch springs. They have a replacement dual caliper rated front MC, NOT OEM looking, but very functional. THey also have MC rebuild kits, shocks, brake pads, an OEM replacement fuse box(but most of us don't recommend staying with the stock glass tube fuses). Another member sells Spade type fuse blocks. I got a 5 slot one from Pep Boys and wired it in myself.

You can get after market coils from Dennis Kirk. They also have Fuel lines, not sure if RED color is available!?

You can get Stainless Steel brake lines made by Randy here on the FORUM. He may also be able to repair your brain box, didn't check your profile, if it's a 2H7 series box, he can fix it!! Okay, checked your profile, an 80 Xs11, depending on what's wrong with the box, Randy can still possibly fix it, sometimes it's just a matter of resoldering the joints and such.

Zanottimotors is another Yamaha Dealer that works well for many OEM parts you need to order at good prices!

Ebay is good for those cosmetic parts, like side covers and such, but for these other parts, new are just as good and as decent prices, vs. messing with old used parts! Happy Shopping!

Never used the links below but you can use the Yamaha parts catalog with the first one if the part is available they show a price for it.
The second has a part number search It looks like you can get to the parts fiche on that site as well if you register. I looked up the rear MC for my 80G and it shows $135.

I think the both do phone orders.

                    Hi BossHogg,

We have same problems here in france, and sure, it's this "lazy punk kid" behind the desk who absolutely don't care !

he also don't know how to find the part number cause the parts-lists (book style) have been discarded 15 years ago !...

But try this : get the part numbers of what you need, then go to the closest YAMAHA dealer and don't ask him "old XS parts" but give him parts #. he type in his computer and tell you if it's still available from YAM, give price and delay
Forget about cosmetics but lot of engine parts, gaskets, bearings, clutch and brake or petcock repair kits are available.

                    Good luck

Also small things like an oil filter can be cross referanced at your local auto parts store like checker, bumper to bumper, auto zone.
Usually they can be picked up for alot cheaper then from the dealer. Clutch cables are still avail. from Yamaha. Sounds to me like this kid didn't want to do the search and cross referance. On the lighter side, How dare you have to make this kid with no work ethics even have to think about working and actually earning his $$$$. Lol.
Extra parts are available here also. Just gotta ask. If we have it, I'm sure that you would end up with it for cheaper then you could buy it for elsewhere. You would also know that the part would work for your application because it came from someone who kinda knows what your talking about. Like the oil filter bolt. I have an extra one that I would have just sent you for nothing.
