Got married, had kids, suffered from military burnout...

          Glad I did it.

          No regrets getting out!

Like someone said earlier, got tired of the ROTC and West Point goof balls they were throwing at us. Plus there was a lot of racial tension in the military during those years. Often wondered what it would have been like to have stayed in. I could have retired last year with 30 years. I went in when I was 17.

Digiatal Communications Test Company, US Army Electronic Proving Grounds, Fort Huachuca AZ 79 - 83

Got busted to E3 cause I wouldn't stop driving when they revoked my on post driving privileges (made it till till 2 weeks before ETS before getting caught). Made obsene gestures at the north gate of FT Huachuca as I drove out for the last time.

Only person I know of who got a letter of commendation from the post commander, and an article 15 from my CO for the same day of guard duty. Raised eyebrows when they looked at my personnel jacket.

Explaination: my car broke down on the way in for guard duty, and fixing it so I could get in got grease on my LAST set of fatigues. Had to stand initial formation in dirty fatigues and got sent to my CO, who didn't care that I had my stuff in the wash at that moment. Sent me back (with freshly washed and heavily starched fatigues that I had just finished) before the actual posting formation for the guards, which inspection was done by the post commander. He liked how I turned out, and having been told the story of what had happened wrote an official letter of commendation to go in my records, which rather neutered the article 15 (other than the extra duty and such).

Was offered in Az when I re-enlisted my one and only time to cross transfer to the Air Force, and I didn't do it (one of the stupid moves on my part). I probably would have done 20 years if I had transferred to the AF, but that is life. Heck, I would have gotten a bonus and a stripe as well and would likely have bought a new XS1100 since I had just seen them for the first time, but as I said, I was a bit stupid about it.
