Topcat I just read this post for the first time. I was a corpsman (USN for those unsure of what a corpsman is). I did most of my time with the 3 marines in Okinawa. Also at Naval hospital Pensacola. Field med at Camp Lejune. I was in from '93 until about '98. I now work as an RN in an ER here in Jeffersonville Indiana.

Man you guys are old! Ha ha.

      TIS (time in service)

I spent some time in the Navy,
Greatest canoe club on earth, N (never) A (again) V (volunteer) Y (yourself). I was a Crypto tech, a signalman, and finally a master at arms. Spent 1983 - 2003 all over the planet. I have seen the world... it's flat and covered with water.

I guess that's why I moved to the desert.

How long have you been in Fallon? Don't drink the water. You have high Arsenic (Arsenic removal is one of my boss' company's businesses. They just started up the Arsenic removal system that brings the level down to 50 ppm and they have to get to 10 ppm by 2006.

Ya know, when I went in the Nav, (77-82) the recuiting slogan was "Join the Navy, and see the world". Well, the world being 3/4 water, I can just look into my toilet and see the world. Then there was 'It's not just ships at sea". No, it's not...It's shafts and screws that make it work. OR "it's not just a job, it's an adventure. Yeah, adventure in anal stimulus.

Boot in Great Mistakes, Ill? Me too. April ,77 Loring AFB, Up in the 'County'? Brrrr. I grew up a in the Waterville, Maine area, and I know how cold that can be. Did you have to go dig up 'taters in the fall like all the other kids? So... you were a Snipe? I was an Airdale on the Kitty Hawk, CV63 from 77-81, and then a year in NAS F**kstick,(Brunswick) Maine for a year. I hated that place, but it was only an hour from home.
                        Welcome to the group.

                            Former or active Military members

1953 Enlisted in USAF, San Diego, CA. I was nineteen, just out of high school, and married nearly a year.

Took my Basic training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. It sure got hot in August! Stepping in gopher holes, twisting ankles while marching in review on the parade field. The first 3.0 beer at the PX! First overnite pass in San An-tone. River Walk, then... Room in Hotel San Antonio, drunk, drunk, drunk on Millers High Life beer!.... Aghhh! hang-over....

Radar Operators Tech. school, Aircraft Control & Warning (AC&W), Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi. I seemed to always be on KP (permanent??) in those huge consolidated mess halls. The off-base Juke-Joints... beer, fresh shrimp, and oysters in Biloxi, and Gulfport!

Assigned to USAF Duty Station "FROSTY", The 680th AC&W (Early Warning Radar), in Yaak, Montana. AFSC: 27350, Crew Chief of Charlie Crew.
FROSTY, in the early '50's, was considered a remote and isolated base... and It Was! Great hunting, and fishing! Cold... with lows to -60 degrees below 0... Highlander beer, and fight nite at The DIRTY SHAME Saloon.
Some folks in the nearby towns resented us too. Ya didn't visit many bars alone before ya got that message loud, and clear! Later, after several confrontations, and injuries to some GI's, the entire base turned out for a "Fatigue Liberty" attitude adjustment in town. It seemed to work!

Headquarters was Geiger AFB, in Spokane, WA.

                            1957, USAF Separation. Honorable Discharge.

rneal55555- I must have been 6 or 7 at the time. This was in 1967-1968.

John- Yep, I picked taters with my older sister! I was really too young to be out there doing any good. Mostly I was just there to be a thorn in my sisters side. Man, I do remember getting paid what seemed to be BIG money for that. We took our earnings and got to spend it all at a HUGE toy store on anything we wanted. That was awesome!!!

I will say that maine and upstate new york are two of the prettiest places in the country. Pretty dang cold too!!!-Tom.
