  • Got my baby back!

In '79 I bought a new XS1100SF so I could ride with my brother (XS1100E). I rode it for about five years and 7500 miles. Then sold it to a friend of my brother just before moving two states away in 1984.

Recently I discovered the guy still had it but hadn't ridden it in years so I called him up and asked if he'd consider selling it back to me. Two weeks went by and I called him back. He said he'd sell it and asked if $500 was too much. Even though it wasn't in running condition, I didn't even dicker about the price.

Arrangements were made to pick it up. My brother and I went to the guy's house, looked it over (no rust in the tank, YEA!) and 8150 miles. He only put 650 miles on it!

We spent two intensive days rebuilding the petcocks, carbs, and brakes. After new Dunlops were installed, new battery, and a LOT of rust, dirt, and oxidation was scrubbed off, it was time to crank it over. SUCCESS!

I'll be busy for the next year or so polishing and touching it up, but for now, I'm just ecstatic to have my baby back.

              Baby Back?

              John,
              Shouldn't that be X-static?
              Way to go...
I'm glad X-Wifes don't come back like that!

Steve, you are correct. I should have typed X-static!

Czekus21, I put the header and K&N's on and rejetted before I sold it to him. I live about six miles south of town on Hwy U west of 61. Where are you now?

Funnier yet, I took the title to get it registered in my name and looked at the milage on the front side and it said 8000. The odometer was at 8152 when I bought it back. Guess I was mistaken, he didn't put 650 miles on it, he only put 152 miles on it! What a hoot. My brother said he knew the guy was afraid of fast bikes. Guess he was right. Too bad for him, good for me!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

                John

Actually, imagine if 15 years after your divorce, your X-wife reappears in that good of a shape, like she was in storage for 15 yers, that wouldn't be so bad...

John, I now live in S.D. I've got a bro thats locked up in Farmington but calls Columbia his home, My inlaws live in GreenCastle, Right outside of Kirksville. I also used to drive for Oliver Trucking out of Mexico before the DOT shut them down. Now working for the local cable co here in Sioux Falls.
If my ex wife was stored for 15 years and reappeared in front of me I'd probably feek out and shoot her, Then I'd let my dog eat her, then I'd shoot the dog.

                          Cool story John.

I owned a 1979' XS1100 Touring back in 1980'-1981'. This year I managed to come accross another 1979 XS1100 Touring bike and purchased it from the "original owner". It has twice the mileage that my 1st one had, but heck at only 38k, that's still only 1 1/2k per year. I ain't complaining.

I got the mongrel from a church auction for $500,
found out that the donor had rebuilt a special he crashed
onto a Standard frame, and some unknown parts..

2 days later my uncle GAVE me his 79 sf that was holding up a
tarp in his back yard for 15 years.. (ran when parked)

I found out that my uncles' was the first one that the bike shop
i was working for had gotten in and I had ridden that bike as a 19 yr old.. (a short ride it scared me).. and he had bought it the same afternoon.. (my initials are on the check off sheet he had)

That one too, no rust in the tank.. and im now running "Rusty's engine in the mongrel" while i go through Rusty's frame end to end..

Don't know if they will ever look that good though..

                            Thanks for sharing
