big plans for winter work?

Anyone have any big plans for their machines over the winter? I have one that's having charging issues that are kicking my a$$ to the point that I walked away from it before lighting it on fire last fall.
Other than that... nothing big. How about yall?

If I can sell the Kawasaki, so I have room to work, I want to start putting my '78 back together! I'll start with the engine and go from there, as it's in a LOT of bits and pieces.

YES, Big Plans

Though unfortunately about the same plans I had in Oct, Nov & Dec
Doing the work is mostly E-Z but as we all know, sourcing things is a major pita and Time PIT. But I am making progress.
That's the fun of Own - Ride - Wrench a Vintage XS

Baltimore E Bike:
~ have the Advancer and Pickup Coil harness removed and got new wire to re- wire the entire harness from connector to p/u coil wires and have the neutral switch wire run down separately. (a just because I can project) plus had 2 p/u coil wires inside the 4 wire cloth sheath that were down to only 3-4 strands that needed to be mended or fixed
~ clean and lube the manual advancer
~ have Carbs off for new intakes which are on the bench ready to install
~ have exhaust system off (had to remove whole thing as one piece). Trying to remove the mufflers and crossover.
Got one muffler off and trying the get the other 3 connections apart. or may give up as to not damage the pipes or mufflers.
~ assemble and take a trip

Louisville Pacifico E Bike:
~ waiting patiently for BWI to get running so it can get its 10K full Service after 20,000 happy miles ridden.
~ install Geezer Tony new Regulator / Rectifier
~ test charging system / had a couple of very odd fast battery discharges to dead battery without blowing a fuse. On lithium batt so maybe its the batt

Grand Rapids E Bike:
~ Tank is off and Mike P hooked me with dent fix guy
~ tank apart and have Caswell for tank liner
~ Carbs are off and cleaned but will re-do
~ Valve cover removed for valve clearance check
~ only 9K on the bike but PO said don't think engine has turned over in 12 years. So bit of marvel soaking in the pistons & rings
~ 1st thing now is to see if it turns over. I expect it is fine since it was heated garage kept.

Nothing really major unless hit some wild card / unexpected snags. Having three XS11 E's ready for any LD Trip would be nice. That's the Plan

So after I get done; come about April all these bikes should be in the junkyard hopefully not

I like this thread...make a big list of things to motivate, and see if I can accomplish half of what I set out to do

JeffH - your list is inspiring and some familiar sounding items.

I have a set of carb boots to put on.
The carbs need a clean - low RPM performance has been dwindling, and there is popping on decel on right side.
Phil helped me find a hole at the bottom and end of the right pipe - what to do?
I want to clean electrical, and see what lurks there, scary scary electrical That in itself could be the single best thing I do for the bike.
Headlight needs an upgrade - too dim.
LED fog lights need better wiring, or better lights
Lots of chrome and alum. polishing to do, poor thing has had very little of that.
Drop the oil pan and see if there is 40 years of crud to clean out.
Get rid of the original tape deck and find something more useful to look at, maybe a glove box?
New throttle and clutch cables!
I would like to improve brakes - pads, hoses, slotted discs, what is worth doing on a 78E?

The bike is inside the house, we are both happy now. I'd post a picture but don't need that frustration, you'll have to trust me

Valve Seals

Valve Seals Beginning to blow some smoke on start up. Seth if you read this I could use your expertise we did yours but you are the master in Head Removal!

Building a 79 special from a motor and frame, then replacing the head and valves on my 80 standard. Then selling off a pile of parts that have built up in the storage room.....then maybe being done with it!

My bike is in a storage facility at a location unknown to me. By the time I get it back, it will be spring.

BIG Plans

I'm in the middle of a frame swap on my Honda V65. As I completed the project last winter, I realized the frame was bent. Now I have to back up and do it over.

I found a donor bike.

I have them mostly disassembled. I am a long way from home. Now I can turn around had back closer to home again:

Meanwhile, I found my 'new' Vmax was dripping brake fluid from the clutch slave, so that took precedent over everything for a brief while. I wish the previous owner had taken of it right away before it stripped the paint off of the bottom of the engine.

Having some challenges is part of the fun, right?

Good thing I fixed all of my XS problems before I started these new projects, so I am ready to ride the XS's at a moment's notice.

The Kawi left for good yesterday. Today I have the upper and lower cases in the garage ready for the cleanup! Let the fun begin!
