Ok, I’m going to order 3 of them...but you see it’s not listed as fitting the exhaust on the XS1100SF ....just the XS1100E...because.....

It doesn’t exist in the 1979 model choices!!! Lol just like every other parts dealer. I just don’t get it. Guess that’s why they call them special.

YAMAHA removed the fiche for the XS1100SF. Unless you find someone who saved it, it's gone.

I tell you one thing, the 79 Special exhaust studs are shorter than ones for the 79 Std. They should all be the same pitch thread though. Why don't you go to Ace Hardware and buy the length you need. They do carry metric engine studs in different lengths.

Well that’s why I removed the ones from the 81 special...but the short end threads right in the motor and the long end is hard so I didn’t force it.....but the exhaust nuts go right on either end as smooth as could be. It’s crazy. I’m going to order 3 of the ones that Ranger suggested and see how it goes. I’ll be able to see if they are the same length. I would think I could get away with using the short end in the motor and the long one on the exhaust.....long as they don’t force the Allen wrench out of hole....

The studs came yesterday..... took them out and checked the length...just the same as the others and they threaded right into the head. I have all the wires sorted out now. Just need my gauges, headlight, signals and ignition switch....I ordered a Harley dyna solo seat....I think it will look nice. Just waiting on it and some oil filter parts and that little clip to hold my throttle cable in. I hope that will all be here Saturday. Time to get the carbs in!

I've used the stock Harley Dyna solo seats on a couple of my bikes and I like the look. I have been able to find new take offs for a very reasonable price because the Harley guys upgrade right away to a more comfortable seat. But I do think they look cool on certain projects. I'm sure it will look great on yours!

Yeah I’ve used Harley seats a few time for that same reason! They look cool, are pretty easy to make work, and the Harley guys rip them off for something custom and sell them for $25! Lol. This one...I had to pay a little for but it was still a third of the cost of the last good factory xs11 seat I bought. The next day I found a nice 79 special seat with a cool custom cover on Craigslist for $125. I posted that in the parts for sale section for you guys.

People replace the final drive of the 11 with the 850 or 750 to make the motor rev less at highway speed. In turn they give up a little snap and power??? So......in turn, if I put the Xs11 final drive I just removed in the 850 I’d have an xs850 on steroids that reved a little higher at highway speed?????
I wonder if you can? The drive shaft had to have a collar shim on the xs11’s with the 850 transmission to improve the reach. What would you do to make the drive shaft on the 850 shorter? Maybe my memory and thinking is faulty!

Just use the final drive unit? I don’t know....I’m not ripping my 850 apart to find out.

As I reread the mod, I believe you can use the XS11 shaft, which is 16mm shorter.

Not certain but I think the mod would work if you used the shaft and the FD from the Eleven in the 750/850's.

                          Looking Good!

Nice move on the ignition unit. I've always moved it to inside of the tool compartment, But I think I like your placement better, as long as it stays dry there.

I'm looking forward to seeing the back fender mod if any, and also wondering if you will keep the plastic inner fender in place.

Funny, I usually trim it and put it in the tool box also.....I’m not sure I can fit it there but I’d like to put tools in the tool box this time!

Yeah I’ll be doing a trim on the inner fender and just rolling the chrome part forward. I think it will be a little different this time.....my boy has been offering to do some welding ....and I’m not sure if I’ll be using that seat.......

This thought has crossed my mind....but that new tank quickly pushed it away.

I did get my new carb boots already. Georgefix on eBay always ships like lightning. Didn’t get the carbs in yet because I had to wait on some clear coat to dry.....but the boots are on, and the carbs are ready.

And I guess I’m done with photobucket....they keep wanting money! Lol that’s not going to happen. The only reason I ever even used it was to post here.
