    Thanks!

Hahaha, I never heard of anybody putting an XS11 final drive into a triple...but it is an interesting idea that I think you should try! Looking forward to the report.

I was going to check on the Triples.org website to see, but that site appears to now be defunct...or at least inoperative for the last couple of weeks.

I don’t toy with the 850....it’s too perfectly factory.

            Hey XS11lover,
I was just re-reading that last post and wanted to be sure that you didn't take offense to my laughing about the XS11 final drive in an 850 idea. I wasn't laughing at the idea at all, Actually it takes a brilliant mind to think up something like that and you may well have a very valid point that nobody else has even thought of before! Anyhow I apologize if I did offend you, that certainly wasn't my intention..

Oh no not at all....I’m not owning up to the brilliance,...just a thought that has crossed my mind...not enough to do anything about it.

I got a few hours of polishing in this morning. Like enough to listen to the wall a few times and a few other period correct albums. I guess I neglected to get a full before pic. Guess this will do. I’ll take one when I do the other side. I used a dull scotch bright pad and mother’s for the grungy parts and just mother’s and a rag on the rest.

I got a little more polish time this weekend. Thought I’d post a few pics while I wait for the next step to dry. The mother’s aluminum polish worked so well I tried some chrome polish as a final step. Can’t say it makes them much brighter but it really makes them smooth.

Ok even if you guys aren’t impressed i’ve amazed myself! This clutch cover was a midnight special (Black) cover that I’ve used to put my kickstand on in my gravel driveway!!!! After 3 hours work here it is.

                  Oh my...

                  And was gonna buy one.
I think I’m done for the day. Time for a little Steelers football!

                    Help!

Ok I got my new wire harness in (thanks Andreas)and I’m waiting on my new factory type fuse box. Got my battery box, side cover lock, helmet lock, left and right hand controls rebuilt and refurbished....,things are coming along....I scored a set of exhaust nuts (thanks Don) and beautiful new 79 special factory tank. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Ted Ross!
I’ve turned my attention to my three missing exhaust studs. This is a 79 xs11 special. The 3 I had flying around didn’t seem to want to go in so I thought I’d grab some new ones....I thought the standard and the specials had different length studs so I went to look up the part number....only to find that most internet parts dealers act like the XS1100SF doesn’t exist! Every other model was listed E, F, G, SG, LG and so on. Bike bandit had an sf listed but when you get to the parts fitch it has a joint pic for the f and sf listed with two #15 ,I think it was, (exhaust stud) part numbers! And after finding three other part numbers I moved on. Does anyone know the true part number for sure for an exhaust stud for a 79 xs11 sf special?????
I pulled 3 studs from my 81 sg parts bikes and the short side threads right in the hole...,long side still doesn’t want to go although the nut goes right on either end....I didn’t want to force it in so I threaded the short side in and walked away...is it possible that the 81 special and 79 special had slightly different threads?????? Should I force it in? Should I just mount my exhaust with the short end of the stud in the motor? Should I keep looking for a part number for a 79 special exhaust stud? It seems to be like a unicorn ant the moment.
Any help from you guys that know your parts better than me would be appreciated.

I'd be tempted to check the depth of those stud holes in the head ? Or do you know what came out of them was a full length stud ?

                            Yes,

I got the part numbers from the 1979 XS1100SF Parts catalog / fiche that 3phase and TC posted a year or 2 ago.

                            #15 ....... 95621-08615-00 BOLT, STUD . . . . . . . . . . . . . . qty 8

did the same thing for the nuts.

and then I copied the numbers to partzilla, and what I posted above is what came up.

So if the SF parts catalog is correct and Partzilla's cross reference is correct, then the info should be accurate.
