Part of the problem is that right now there are 3 members and 139 Guests online. Too bad the guests won't join in.

Some of the "guests" are members who have not signed in for the session. If they are just looking for one bit of info, for some people it's easier. I try and look at the site once a day, or a little more when I have time(like now). I still have my '78 basket case, and hope to start putting it together in the next month. I'm also going to sell the Kawasaki, and look for a Super Tenere as a replacement. I want something I can work on again, without spending all day taking plastic off and on!

Super T's are superb bikes Ray. 2012 or later best bet as that earlier ones had issues with the headlite lense getting melted from heat from the bulb. Other than that....just put gas in and ride. They also make for good LD rides.

            Hey Ras,

Another thing about this site is that ALL of the info is available WITHOUT joining or signing in. ONLY if a person wants to post a question, reply, ask for parts, etc..

Well, I got my grandson registered on here, so if/when you see any posts from Ram349, that's him. We're still in the parts aquisition phase.

              It has been a while....

After lots failed attempts, I finally remembered my pass word. It has been a long time since I worked on the old bike and too many lunches have been eaten for me to remember what I once thought I knew. Going to be asking some questions to try to get the old girl running again. Looking forward to learning/relearning how to work on the bike again. Hoping also to renew some friendships.

Some of the shine came off of all the pennies that dropped after the great free image-hosting site massacree with four-part harmony.

I know I'm not really enthused about reposting and rebuilding old forum threads with dead image links even though I still have all the pictures when there are missing socks to track down after the wash, lint to be picked off the dogs, and squirrels to watch.

I do use them but I don't care much for the Farcebark Groups. The old USENET newsgroups are still superior, followed closely by these new-fangled GUI web-based forums.

I'd deactivate my account again and let it snooze but I do enjoy talking/sharing stuff with people and I use some of the vendors. I finally got my dad trained how to use it and now he can't remember how to send e-mail or "dial" a telephone any more.

I think there are several reasons that things are slowing on this site.

Money. It's easy to get a bank loan for a new/newer bike.
Most people don't have cash. Too many credit cards/bills and so on....

That makes it hard to buy these old machines.

Then the mechanical aspect. It's becoming a rare trate to know how to work on bikes
Most tech schools have stopped covering carburetor's or only touch on the subject.

This deters many people. But also the newer generations have become too busy with
FB and they're many distractions video games/TV shows/drinking... I work with about 200 of the younger generations and have to laugh at the things they consider important. Because I was there once and remember...

They don't place the same value on quality that we do. They have been raised in a disposable world, cell phones and new cars just get thrown away when they're broken crashed. Repairing and rebuilding are not first nature.

Forgive my bluntness, it sounds like I'm mad/ranting. But I have no malles toward them.
I have been trying to help them with how they think about these things. And encouraging them to repair broken things. Sound strange to us. But it's true many of them have said "you can fix that?" After they tell me about some broken thing in they're life and I tell them how to repair it.

Also there is a whole bunch of people that learn better by video.
YouTube has become extremely popular for the few that do get into repairing.

So could we set setup a video library of how too's?
Many have the video savvy capabilities. (Sorry I'm still Stone age)
                    Just a thought.....

Again. Please forgive me if this sounds rude or mean, I truly don't mean it that way.

                    Keep riding.
                    Ride safe everyone.

Sorry, should have been more specific about what I meant.

Just use YouTube as the storage location just have links to the appropriate video.

We allready have excellent write ups on rebuilding each of components, we just need to add the link to a video showing how to do each thing..

I know very little of computers, so it seems simple to me.....

But we would need to have a professor (w/masters degree) in XSology with the time and patience to set up the video library on how too's. NOW that's the hard part.

I know there are many "similar" videos out there. But very few on these wonderful XS11's.

I think this is a really good idea but I just had to pipe up and agree with Motoman. There’s so much crazy (dangerous) video out there. Last week watched a 20-year-old kid demonstrate painting a car hood and he just casually sprayed 2K clearcoat with no mask, not even a dust mask.

Anyway, sorry to hijack. I think a YouTube library good XSessive videos is a great idea.

I think a youtube library would help quite a bit. That and possibly editing a few of the older tech-tip threads to re-host the images on another site (postimage seems to have potential?).

I think another part of the lower traffic/participation is sheer intimidation. Being part of the "throw-away" and "computer age" generation, seeing a site like this can be daunting. Especially for this generation of people who are less likely to leave their comfort zone. The majority of regulars on this site have known each other for longer than most of the newer generation has been alive. You have to imagine that would make it a little intimidating to cut in.

Regardless, I know I'll be here posting for a long time to come. Getting my girl closer to how I want her and planning for another xs11 build in the future.
