I was just going by what "Coyotedream1" said in this thread: http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46640
Hearsay, as it were. We'd have to have an owner in this group with a S.N. above 2500 to confirm that. Anyone care to chime in?
Ranger: 3???? That's gotta be like having 3 wives, trying to choose which one to ride. The bikes, not the wives....
Hahaha Dudenatz....choices choices!.... decisions decisions!
My SN's are all below 1700

It's like: Which one needs the attention the most, or which one feels the best, or which one is always there for me.....
It's always good to have alternatives.
I've read a few other forums on the serial number topic and the highest I've seen is #2374, on a Brit site. I got the "Contact Us" info for Yamaha Corp., so I'm going to try going straight to the source to see if I can get a solid number 37 years later...

Thanks for catching that Cajun31. I was considering they would be similar but you are right. Hey, very good condition is $2,900. $1900 is the good guy deal for the good guys on this forum.
Main reason I looked was for the replacement value of my bike ...for insurance and because it was totaled in an accident...
I wasnt even expecting to find any listing of our bikes since they are so old..but lo and behold..
Sometimes in New York, the DMV will use the NADA value when they add the sales tax at the counter when I'm registering a bike. I bought a non-running cb750 on Craigslist last year for $100, but the clerk looked up the NADA "fair value" and accessed the tax on that, which was a lot more. I think this applies in some other states too, but it seems to be at the clerks discretion.
Something to think about for your next XS barn find.
I have a 79F myself, very low mileage. In spite of the low mileage, it had plenty of deterioration just from age, and I spent the winter refreshing it. Not a cheap enterprise! I added some NOS turn signals, NOS yamaha mirrors, NOS Mikuni carb parts, NOS petcock, professional paint, refreshed the brake system . . . plus the purchase price and delivery from CA to PA - ouch!
Well, my expenditure has nothing to do with sale values or value to the next owner. But, the NADA book value gave me some hope that I have not created 'a money pit'!
In fact, I spent so much, I am selling my hobby car, an old Ford, also with low mileage. 1971 Ford LTD with 21,000 miles. I just posted it to Craigslist yesterday, where I live in Cumberland Valley PA.
I just took junior (age 15) on a ride around the country side last night. Beautiful. A little more vibration at 2500 - 3000 rpm than I'd like (my last good ride was a fuel injected, 6 cylinder Gold Wing). But handling is a breeze, and the 11 feels very light and nimble by comparison. Can't understand all the knocks about it's handling. Seems great to me!
Typically the vibration can be smoothed out with a carb sync. I gather it is at light throttle cruise since you are riding around the countryside with a passenger? Since most light throttle cruise is relying a lot on the pilot circuit, a sync has good effect on smoothing it out.
If it is on acceleration through that RPM range where you get the vibration, double check the cam chain is adjusted properly with the tensioner and that all four cylinders are running the same based on plug color, IMO.
All the XS1100's I have owned and still own are the smoothest in-line 4 cyl engines I have ridden. They aren't the quietest because of the old-school air cooled design however they are consistently smooth at cruise.
These NADA prices are great except when you get a county commissioner of Revenue who is an idiot and assess your tax at the max. The internet is full of information however it needs comprehension to sort threw the bull that is out there also. Not only did I have to do battle over My $6,500.00 XS11 but my 87 Plymouth Duster valued at $5000.00 that sold for 7,890.00 new.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.
I was looking for replacement values for insurance purposes..nada valuation for Exc Cond is used for that purpose..Sucks if the local gov't motor vehicle depts. use it too.. Rarely have I seen these bikes sell for that much or more.. I have seen some that have and others that certainly would command that kind of money because of their exc OEM condition low mileage XS11s...
Well went and talked to a local dealer and was somewhat disappointed.
Guess I'm not thinking as dealers do, seems they have no desire to give anything for these old bikes.
On a trade though towards an 8K$ bike he had the very good condition 79 would merit a $500 trade in value.
Can anyone use one or more of these ? http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps02f16ac4.jpg
dont always work the way it looks on paper..in reality very few bikes realize that exc cond. valuation... even my estimation for insurance was off..they wont pay that much..ever..
