Guess what...i had a wreck. It was crazy and I can't tell you what happened....it's still bugging me. i went for a sunday ride with my girl and we rode until we had enough then stopped for wings. I had been a good boy all day and kept my speed under control....the place we stopped used to be a bar and I planned on enjoying a beer with my wings, but they were just a sub shop now so I had a soda. We ate and planned on going to the camp sight and digging a new fire pit. We went to go and I even let my girl go first, I never do that! I putted off down the road. I was doing the speed limit if that. The next thing I knew I was being life lighted to the local trauma center by helicopter......broken sternum, knee, road rash, concussion and in need of stitches. My helmet scraped and broken and my leather torn. I have no memories of anything until I was on my way to the hospital. When they rolled me over they said I was purple and not breathing.they said my eyes popped open and I said "what happened?" three times not hearing their answers and as calm as we were having a coffee...crazy.....I went back to look at the place I wrecked only to see about a 12 ft skid mark from the center of the road off the right side into rocks on a hill, there looked to be a few scraped up spots to the left of my skid mark...od... i guess I laid about 20 ft from there on the berm and the bike was about 50 ft from there in the center of the road....still nothing....My boy Jack went and picked up my bike and I got to see it when I got out of the hospital. It was trashed on the left side,,...??? and the headlight, gauges handle bars and tank were all smashed from me landing on them I'd guess. There is like no damage to the right side. I would have thought it would be trashed. It's all starting to make me think I was on my side before I left the road. It bugs the hell out of me knowing I was doing nothing wrong like I would be normally and just about killed myself and don't even have a clue what happen. Guess I'll have plenty of time to think about it in the weeks to come. On the bright side... my new Kerker 4 to 1 pulled through seemingly without a scratch. Crazy, me and the bike are f*cked up. I've always seen it coming but this one has me wondering. What the hell.

Right on! You're alive and awake and able to wonder what the heck happened!
It's too bad about the bike but it's just metal. Take your time, get better, then go somewhere that doesn't serve subs and have some wings!-- Scott

Wow, sorry to hear about this, but like Scott said.....HOORAY that you're the one telling us and not your significant other or son!! From your description I'm going to wager a guess and say that you probably hit an oily spot in the middle of the road that threw you and the bike down on your/it's left side before you even realized what happened, hit your head and concussed/knocked out, along with the damage to your left knee and such, the handlebars may have banged you in the chest to crack your sternum! Heal fast!!

I am with Greg on this one. To suddenly go down for no known reason makes me think the rear tire might have locked up for some reason.Harry

Thanks,
I plan on taking a look but at the moment I'm wheelchair bound and it hurts like hell to lift anything. The part I left out is I just had my other knee fixed and had been favoring it. No more, it's my good knee now. Lol79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)

You
must have an angel on your shoulder to watch out for you.
I know nothing of my crash, saw the ditch and then walking around trying to get air in, then red lights, coming to take me away HA HA.
Might be lucky we did not see the crash up close ?!
Glad you are telling us about it !!!!!

I'm so glad it wasn't any worse but it sounds like it was bad enough.

Thanks guys. Yeah Kat this started as a private message to you. I love that exhaust. lol Then I thought maybe some body may get some thing out of it. I'll post some pics when I can and when I'm healthy enough I'll finish the 80 standard. I'm still looking for a 80 standard wire harness but it's pretty low on my list at the moment!79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)

and for the record i did change my final drive and middle drive oils last summer and greased the hell out of my connections. I did read your posts lol. That being said there was always some thing a little funny about the way that unit acted. I've owned a few xs11's. Good thing it didn't happen at 120 i guess.79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)

Might be providence you let your girl go first- lest you both be hurt.
We're thankful you are (going to be) OK.-Mike
