The Facebook link wants a login so I can't tell if it works.

Got the bike and trailer home and in the driveway. Today I removed the rear bags, luggage rack, mufflers, seat, and tank. Removed spark plugs and added some oil to each cylinder. Things look complete and not too bad.

The tank has at least one hole. (Is J-B Weld impervious to gas?)
I removed the petcocks and fuel level sensor, as well as the gas cap stuff.
I've read about putting a couple handfuls of nails or screws in the tank and swishing it around to clear out the gunk.

          Serial number ends in 0004xx and it's Maroon, so it's a 1978 E model.

            Hi Frank,
There are a number of threads about cleaning the insides of the tank.
If it is just a small hole in an isolated location then it can be silver soldered which of course requires the paint to come off in that area.
There are liners available for the interior with , in my observation, mixed results.
Time to change your signature to 78E
Perhaps start a new thread with the pictures of unloading from the trailer.
Frank's 78E Rebuild ? in the XS Discussion section. That way you can have all your questions in one place and those following and helping with advice can look back over what has been done/tried already.
