“We know there is an increased risk of collision with deer around dawn and dusk, and also during the October-December breeding season,” said Chris Mullen, Director of Technology Research at State Farm. “However, drivers should be engaged, alert and on the lookout at all times, because you never know when you may need to react to a deer or any other obstacle that may suddenly be in your path.”
Deer aren't much of a problem around here but it can happen, thanks for the reminder it's that time of year again.

From what the science shows, they do not work unless the deer is within 10 feet or less,,,and going the normal highway speed the dumb animals smash into you first and then think you are calling them to mate and jump on you and the bike even more,,,,,,so nope, whistles not good, except for the imagination and sales for the companies that sell them. Better to stay off the road in the eve and morning..................ride on,,,,Mike in Sun Diego, home of the hapless Chargers........

I've read that they DO NOT work, and deer are pretty much used to all noises cars, etc. make, and a whistle out of all things does not keep them away (especially during ruttin' season, where they run crazy from hormones).

I just carry an extra pair of underwear. Here in OH we have ALOT of deer..you never get used to them but you accept it as part of riding. One Harley rider was killed a few years ago about 1/2 mile from the house when they say the deer jumped out and hit him broad side...

Deer tend to do that leaping, bouncing and bounding thing like Pepé Le Pew en amour and the little fiends can jump higher. I think getting hit broadside could do it for almost anyone that got hit on a bike or crashing through a window.

We have deer/bike collisions a lot here in Michigan, many fatal. Had a few close one's myself. My boss had a deer come-out at him, then at last second turned 90 degrees and ran along-side him till it went off the road again.

it's hard for me to believe Wi. is near worst ? ? ?
In Aug 97, a deer hit my cycle while I was doing about 60, it came from the side, hit the fairing, bruised my leg and broke the cover off the saddlebag. The bike started swerving wildly, but I remembered it would self correct, so I let it go, and the bike never tipped. Killed the deer. Then in Nov 99, I hit another one with my car, the deer jumped out of a ditch, and I thought I would slip under it, but it landed on the hood, took out the windshield, bent the roof back, and landed in the passenger seat like a person. I found out the next day that another guy hit one like that and was decapitated. Last week my wife hit one with our Trailblazer three days after I put a brush guard on the front. Killed the deer, no damage to the car. The deer now lives in pieces in my freezer. In central WI, many are killed and left laying on the side of the road.
