Last night I found out that I can lock up the rear tire on my XJ even with the linked brakes.
We recently put my mom into a care facility, so I was on my way to visit her. It was about 8:00 pm. I was following a Dodge Ram about 2 seconds behind them going 45 MPH. He turns his right signal on to pull into the Maverick and I notice a car looking to come out of the parking lot. As the truck slows down and pulls over to make the turn I proceed to pass them… The car proceeds to pull out making a left turn right in front of me. I have no time to think yet it also seemed like an eternity. I could see that the lady was looking to her right and not at me. The child in the passenger seat started screaming. I hit both the front and rear brakes hard, the rear tire locks up and slides around to be 90* from the direction I am going. I was heading right at the back part of her front tire. All that I could think was “My family could not handle this at this time”. My wife just got out of the hospital 2 hours before after being diagnosed with cancer. My kid’s emotional state would not handle me being hurt or killed at this time plus I need to take care of my wife while she goes through chemo.
I was probably 5 Feet away from her and instinctively I let off the brakes and turned the wheel to the left some. The bike literally jumped forward passed the front of her car. She must have reacted and hit her brakes or she would have ran over me, I was inches from her front bumper. My bike fishtailed back and forth a few time but I managed to stay on it and got control back.
I did not stop. I hit the throttle and continued on as if nothing happened. I knew if I stopped I would have beaten the crap out of the lady in front of her kids. I rode on to the care facility and had a nice visit with my mom then rode home.
Sorry I meant to put this in the Members Lounge.
