Not sure I installed it correctly according to my computer guy, didn't disable the internal one.

Greg not to say this is your problem but when updates go out from a manufacturer like Qualcomm sometimes they cross platforms so it would not be uncommon for the manufacturer to tweak the driver for their devices and it would be possibly the same tweaks on Windows 10 and 7 and 8 and 8.1. So therefore you are working fine one day and the next intermittent like my cousin was and then you do not work at all. Something happened and its unlikely the card broke but highly likely an update on any of the more modern platforms creating the issue. This is the point I was trying to get across the recent update on my cousins computer only made her computer Wi-Fi card fail her Ethernet connection still worked fine and 3 other computers worked fine on the Wi-Fi and switching to another router fixed everything for her.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Not my call to buy a NEW router just because my laptop doesn't work right. Stands to reason that since all other devices work fine there's an issue with mine. I just need to find out what it is...............and fix it.

          Starting at the wifi adapter.

Most Routers have an update flash utility that actually does an update of the firmware and program codes for the router. It may be that updating the router will help but I am not sure. This update on all routers I have used does not change configuration and has always worked quickly and smoothly for me.

Vlad is putting a new adapter in it as we speak. He said he's seen this before. With Asus units.

OK Harry, swapped out the Atheros adapter and put an Intel in there and it STILL does the same thing.
