  • Starting a trip

I've always had the thought when I start off on a long ride about 50 miles out " Damn, this is going to be a LOOOOONG ride. Maybe I should turn around and go back" but I keep going every time because I enjoy the trip every time.

Then, coming back about 50 miles from home you think "Damn, it'll be good to get home but I can't wait until the next run. MAN! This seat feels like it's stuffed with broken glass".

Am I just freakin' nuts or do others feel the same way.

believe it or not there are some bikes that make touring an easy thing to do...but then some bikes make it more of a chore...Even though the XS11s are good at doing everything ...they do make LD rides more difficult to do than say a real touring or sport touring bike would...but thats just my experience...YMMV

Eh........it's just that first hour and that last hour. Everything in between is what make me keep doing it.

The longer the trip, the more I love to turn onto my driveway. After most long trips my bike gets at least a weeks rest. After the bike has had a good rest we are ready to go again.

My Blazer gets the whole summer off. It just sits in the driveway unless I gotta haul some people or something that won't fit on the bike.

Unless it's pouring rain my bike is my daily driver, even after a long trip. I just got time to wash the Michigan dirt off of it last weekend. The Michigan rally was in mid August.

                  Rode to work this morning.

........and I thought I was the only one that had those thoughts. I'll just have to see in the spring how it all feels after the bike crash that exploded my letf hip and forearm. Pretty sire I 'll be able to do at least a fairly long ride, but I'm thinkin' 5-800 mile days of riding are over with having metal plates in both those places. Fairly sure I 'll be able to hold bike vertical as long as an absent driver doesn't make a left turn directly in front of me again..........we'll see how it all goes come Spring next year. Which reminds me, I'll have to drain a completely full tank that is treated with Startron, start out fresh fuel after I remove dry carbs(no fuel in them) and lower running fuel levels one millimeter. BTW, the ST got totalled and insurance agreed to pay me the book price of $5,150, which was substantually more than I could of sold it for prior to wreck. Even though in imacculate cond. and super low mileage, the best I would expect was $3,300!

Damn...Brant you are one tough s o b...glad you were able to overcome all those serious injuries and that you really made out well with the insurance company's payout...recently i have had some serious medical issues that would have killed me if it werent discovered just in the nick of time and operated on...just saw the Dr's today...Day 15 post surgery and the Docs aare pleased with the rate of healing...i have been cleared to ride and to do more strenuous exercise and sit in a hot tub...funny thing is the 2 incisions werent sutured up in the normal way...instead they used what looks like clear silicone caulking to seal the incisions...
Since its a raw weather day here...i am gonna soak in my hot tub bathtub...
