Remember to Ben, that Greg takes on bout whatever mother nature dishes out on a LD ride........no waitin' for ultimate nice ridin' weather.
Brant I aint no spring chicken...I have done my share of LD riding in all weather...I expect weather to be bad and if its good then thats a bonus....BTW theres no such thing as bad weather only bad gear and bad preparations...so i dont need no stinkin lecture... save it for the newbies

Can't change it, just push through. Tod rode to AZ to visit his mom at Christmas a few years back through the worst blizzard OK has seen in a while. It's just weather.

I need to be riding more!!!

Normal riding is locally in north Georgia. Have been to TN and NC also this summer. Usually a day or two out at the most. Have not yet become a fan of longgggggggggg distance riding on two wheels.
Looking forward to XSSE rally.

I certainly will Greg! And, in the Fall, I'll throw my Windshield on, in-place of the fairing. Biggest decision now is what bike to use for the Fall riding. I'll be buying some Hippo Hands soon. I considered Heated grips, or expensive Olympia gloves, but I think Hippo Hands in-combination with my Winter gloves and heated vest should be okay.
Bought a pair of those Hippo Hands once. Was on a cold 1200 mile ride. I was using snowmobile mittens with a hot pack in each one. I stopped to warm up a bit, pulled those Hippo Hands out to give 'em a try. Set them on the back of the bike while I finished my coffee, then hopped on the bike and took off. To whoever got a brand new pair of Hippo Hands, you're welcome. lol.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.
You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

Just returned last weekend from Prince Edward Isl, Nova Scotia (for mussels) and Bar Harbor, ME Acadia.
Last month my bro and I visited our cousin in Tampa. Took a week there and back with some Civil War site visits in between. Great Great Grandpappy John Bergen was wounded at Cedar Creek, VA
Of course herded some scaredy-cats on local Montauk / Bear Mtn runs leading the 'lifers' who never ventured off LI Go figure.
This weekend it's up to the Finger Lakes and NY Wine country.
So far about 11K+ miles not including this weekend.

I think I actually prefer the long distance trips. Hours on the bike gives you a lot of time to think about things and plan. Plus there tends to not be the dangerous traffic riding around town or the Hill Country roads offer.

Don't get me wrong, I miss Swamp Thing, but she could never do what the wing does. Two different worlds, and I was ready for the comfort world
I certainly agree that comfort on the wing is 2nd to none...I miss my ST1100...SwampThing is alright but not nearly as comfortable for the long haul...having an ST for the LD rides and an XS110 for the XS rallies was my preferred way to go...as much as I love SwampThing it still leaves me for want of a more comfortable LD ride...My ST got over 300 miles in range per tank...Swampy= a bit less than half that range....
