    Carb Kits

Now that I have the carbs disassembled does anyone know if Mikuni makes a kit for the bs34 carbs. Have been reading about all the aftermarket kits being trash so I am hesitant to use them.

      Carb Question

I have the kit on order and am wondering on how to tell if I have the passages clean enough for reassembly. Any Sage advise from the gurus out there?

Pay particular attention that the 3 small holes in the top of the venturi behind the butterfly are all clear and clean and if your kits come with new jets DON'T USE THEM!

I need the gaskets, o-rings and such. Was planning on reusing the main jet and idle mixture screw. I need to replace the pilot jets. Local Yamaha dealer told me 10.00 per jet.

T.C. I was thinking he had the carb bodies in the water, but on the pan bottom. Yes, the water gets to 212, MAYBE 218 with the bubbles, but the pan bottom is MUCH hotter than that at a heavy boil. Think sauce on medium heat, and the bottom burns.... The carb bodies would transfer the heat to the seals, so it MAY be a problem. I just try and err on the side of less damage.

I did and just decided to support the spray carb cleaner people for the passages. All seems to be passing ok except for the bowl. Do you know if the passage on the bowl rim is a sump or does it pass through to the small hole inside the bowl?

It should pass through. That's where the enricher (choke) is fed from.

The phillips looking screws are actually JIS(Japenese Industrial Standard). Using a hammer impact type driver sometimes works with a JIS driver on the end of impact tool.

There is a VERY FINE hole in a brass insert pressed into the bowel. I use a fine COPPER wire to clean it out. the copper is softer than the brass, so it will not enlarge the jet/hole. You can also try a short bit of fishing line, about 3-6LB leader should be close to the proper diameter. I've had them take about 30 minutes of work just to open one jet. Carb cleaner, work it, rinse and repeat.

Just an update. Pulled out the chemtool and the jets appear to be clean. Just need to grab some new bolts and reassemble. Work will have me gone for a couple of weeks.

What is the best tool for setting the float levels. This has always vexed me.
