You guys are like motorcycle super heroes, you're the A-Team on cool motorcycles instead of that BA GMC van. Great drama and more camp fire stories to add to the list. Bummer though Tod, weren't you approaching a new personal record for "consecutive days as an XJ owner without breaking anything?" And the legend grows...
On a side note, aren't you running the FD mod Tod or am I mistaken? Not to restart the old debate but is it curious that the drive held up when the stock part failed? Any other XSives ever experience hub failure like that?

Yeah, I'm running an 850 FD. I grease the hub/fd every tire change, but I ride a lot in the rain, and it looked like there hadn't been any grease on it at all. Lots of salt on the roads in Oklahoma, so thinking this contributed to the problem as much as wheelies. lol.

Parked my bike too close to Tod's. Something rubbed off.
Stopped in Roswell NM awaiting my wife with a trailer.
Had been running 90+ all morning from Gallup NM with Bob and broke away south on US285 at Clines Corners while he continued on to OKC. Tod and Greg are still in Utah for the weekend.
Anyway just about 6 miles from town I begin to hear a loud noise and slow down, as I ease to the shoulder at an intersection, I pull in the clutch and the engine locked up. (Yes it was still full of oil) Starter would not budge it. Could have been a rod bearing, I did not get to hear it long enough to tell.
2700 hard miles on this trip. I guess she deserves a rest. I will look to swap another engine in while we figure out what happened.

Made it home safely by Friday night 9:30 pm CST.
I knew my rear tire was getting thin by the last day of the trip (which is now my record for most days travelled in one day-883 miles / most miles ridden during a trip by myself- 623 miles.)
I looked at it and snapped this pic after I finished unloading the bike, and thought "Wow, pretty much used all this tire up!"
Saturday morning, I looked at it again after rolling the bike back a bit and placing it on the centerstand...
Yes... I'd say I definitely got all the miles this tire had to offer out of it! Whew!
Here's total trip miles for me, plus an additional 40 or so... (I started this trip OD in Sand Springs, Ok. where Greg and I first met up and fueled before heading out to Wichita, Ks.
Many thanks to Ivan, for springing for the pizza and your hospitality, allowing us to stay over at his place for the night. Great to see Harry and Russ again, too!
To Brant and his family, for their hospitality and allowing us to stay with them for the night, having a great meal cooked for us and kept warm since we arrived later than we expected... and for the great ride you led us on!

To JW- I really appreciate your help with cost savings by getting us into the parks with your annual pass! And, the savings with the great hotels! Awesome!
I can't tell ya enough how sorry I am your bike laid down on ya after we split separate ways. Hope you manage to get home safely with it, and my fingers are crossed it's not too serious. I thought things like this only happened to me after spending the money for 2 new tires?? Guess not...
Tod and Greg- I hope you guys have a great ride the rest of the trip, and make it ok between gas stops on the Hanksville to Henrieville leg, (since Greg forgot to get my gas can and net from me at the last station where we left you guys...
Not sure when you guys are coming back into Oklahoma, but it's been quite stormy here the past 24 hrs, with more to come today! Watch the weather closely, and watch out for the flash flooding!
To Bohn- It was great to hang out with you, Linda, and Jennifer at breakfast in Zion. Just wish we'd had more time. Wishing you a safe trip home, my friend!
Over all, we really had great luck threading through the bad weather on this one.
We did have some to deal with, and I'll never forget the 40 or so miles of storm west of Goodland, Ks. or the Silverton to Durango snowstorm/rainstorm/28 degree ride at 10:00pm following the wrecker's tail lights for 50 miles in the fog!
Truly made this one an adventure!
Still glad I made the trip, and thanks for inviting me along.

Made it home finally. Wow what an adventure.
Tod, Greg and Bob it was fun as always. I truly enjoyed it. I am actually glad I broke down after separating because I would have felt guilty delaying you guys. As it happened Lisa and I enjoyed a fun mini-vacation together minus her 7 hour drive to Roswell
I will work on getting ready for next time.
